I chose black 2002 Land Rover Freelander as my first car. Besides looking cool it was well equipped and so far i had no problems with it. Last night all of a sudden my alarm went on and my god that thing is loud (i'm a heavy sleeper and it woke me up in a second) . I cant find source of problem and i tried couple things i read here. It goes on only after remote locking. If i use key to lock it everything is fine. I got brand new battery in remote , its connected and works (lock-unlock no problems , both buttons work and in good range) , but 15-20min after i press lock alarm goes on , and tbh it starts to drive me crazy. Got any advice ? I could just use key to lock but i prefer using remote, since it is part of car (factory central lock) .

I made sure all 5 doors , windows and sunroof are closed . It was all firmly closed and that includes tailgate and hood.

You said it happened last night. Has it happened frequently, might it have been set off by someone tampering with your car. There was a trick years ago, a theif would nudge a car to see if it was alarmed, if the alarm went off he would walk away and come back ten minutes later and nudge it again. He would repeat this until the owner got fed up with the thing going off every ten minutes and would lock the car manually to stop the alarm. Ten minutes later the car would be gone.

Also due to it ages. Take a look at bottom of all the doors including the tail gate. Check for the bottom rusted out as this will affect the volumetric alarm sensors. Another issue is your door seals as they will have aged they let water drip all over the door electrics and that could trigger one of the locks then the computer thinks a door has been broken into. Get the codes read it will tell you which one.

i had thief problem years ago and that is the reason why i'm bit too sensitive and angry when alarm goes off (especially mid night)... since then i got 2 guard dogs , remodeled garage , CCTV ... final proof that its alarm system problem is because it went off while i was near car, just me in my yard... it went on FIRST time during night, since then it goes off (in 15-20min ) after i use fob to lock it every time... i might give bonnet switch another try but i doubt that's the case since alarm doesn't make problems if i use key in drivers door to lock... i think its one of those sensors (v-named thingy) in car that makes problem and atm im searching for a way to disconnect it (looking for some guides online) ... As for the rust, well car is luckily rust free :D so if all else fails ill go get those codes

gonna give you guys update on this, just in case someone is interested to know : been thinking a lot , made few calls , was thinking about making a run to ( "main" ) dealership for a check... and then i gave it one more shot... so far not a single ring of an alarm :D looks like it was some insect or something like that... after i did window test ( was waving like crazy nothing happened so i smacked really hard on area where volumetric sensor is) it was all fine... so i either killed bug that was annoying me or broke damn sensor (tbh i have hard hand but did not hear anything cracking)... long story short its all back to normal and i'm bit safer and happier land rover driver :D

This is the description of the volumetric sensor from the manual.

Volumetric Sensing

The volumetric sensor is located in a central position on the roof panel, behind the headlining. The volumetric sensor is a microwave sensor which monitors movement inside the vehicle to detect any possible intrusion. The vehicle can be armed with the volumetric sensor disabled to avoid accidental triggering of the alarm if a pet is in the vehicle for instance. The volumetric sensor is also inoperative if the CCU senses that a panel has been left open, with the exception of the bonnet. A fifteen second delay is initiated after arming of the alarm before signals from the volumetric sensor are interpreted as an intrusion. This precaution is included in the CCU software to avoid accidental or nuisance triggering of the alarm. If the alarm has been triggered, the CCU will ignore further volumetric sensor signals for the duration of the alarm sounding. The CCU will delay volumetric sensing for a further 15 seconds after the alarm has stopped sounding, unless ten triggers have been sensed by the volumetric sensor since the alarm was last armed. The volumetric gain setting is controlled by the VIN stored in the CCU. The VIN informs the CCU of the vehicle body and roof type to avoid under or over sensitivity. If battery supply voltage falls to below 9 Volts, the CCU will ignore inputs from the volumetric sensor.

i should have mentioned that its mid summer in my area and it's record hot these last weeks , my car was parked in garage when alarm went off (and since it was bought it had no drop of rain fall on him) :D its simply hot here right now (so its not rain, water, humidity or anything similar - i blame insects :p )... as for rain in the future-we will see ("que sera sera" - italian saying fit for this situation)... i will shut down volumetric anyway since i plan to travel with a furry four legged companion (black german sheperd dog named Aska :D ) but thats a problem for another day ;)

There is a "thing" on the forum that if there's no picture then it didn't happen or does not exist :D
Basically, some of us are nosy

hope this satisfies your nose :p (its and old pic i got in computer = she is double the size now and has blue collar )
