2000 discovery td5 when i switch the ignition on thee heater plug light wont come and fuel pump wont run turn on / off 2 3 times and they work and all lights go out. but now the heater light wont come on and fuel pump wont run.can anyone help please

i have swapped r9 with abs relay could not find r8 it seems OK at the moment. will give it a couple of days. there is one relay missing on the cover it says refer to hand book .i have check but can t find any info chaz :D

it seems that you dont have heated screens then... get hold of a new relay like that cos R9 is the main relay and if it was at fault your ABS will make tricks from now...so if the 3 amigos will show up it means the main relay was faulty and that caused you trouble... or there is some contact issue in the fusebox and now it's fixed as you jiggled around there

well it work for a couple of hours then went back to switch-en on/off before plug light comes and fuel pump starts also temperature light stays red. when i swap ed relays i noticed r9 was warm when change back the other relay was warm . could the problem be the fuse box

before i fitting second hand fuse box the abs/tra started lighting up as well. connected 2nd box no difference abs/tra hill decent height control ace showing which is strange because i changed to coils disconnected air pump and hill decent at mm 4x4 . i have just connected second fuse box off td5 es mines an xs heater plug light -ace -height control -fuel pump runs but abs/tra hight control still light took it for 30 mile run ok but for abs/ace/height con still on

bought a hawkeye it has cleared all faults. its strange really because it said broken wire bad earth faulty o/s wheel sensor also maf sensor which i changed 18 months ago it shows no readings whatsoever. anyway will see how the dash lights perform ;)

bought haweye diagnostic tool cleared all faults yesterday. same problem again this morning :mad2: i m going to lay down in a dark room and think nice thoughts of land rover ?

but i hope you didnt think that if you find an ABS sensor fault code stored the fault will be fixed just by clearing it with tester... drive the car for a while, read the fault codes again and say exactly what faults you've got

as the maf reading ... it could be a wiring issue not a faulty sensor

Assuming the immobiliser is not on .....

When the engine check light/ glow plug light are not on and temp says way high.....

Will it still start when you turn the ignition to P3 but stop when you release the key??

If so it's the power to/from the immobiliser that is the culprit.

There is an easy and cheap fix if that is the problem ;)

when i switch the ignition on all lights come on except the heater plug light then the lights go out then the three hill decent/height control/ace light come on then have to wait for the glow plug to come on when it lights the fuel pump starts and temp light goes out . i have sat in the car for over three hours trying to get the glow plug other times 1/5 mins light comes on start car switch off start again the other lights go out . is the glow plug on a time switch ? my driver door lock is slow opening some times have to use key would that be affecting it :confused::hysterically_laughi
