hi guys

can I pick ur brains please

having problems with my alarm and wish to run something past u if I may

with me just locking it with the key it isolates the interior sensor, by doing this I've cured the problem with the alarm going off , so in theory all the door , bonnet catches are ok

so I would therefore assume the sensor is faulty

the sensor is up by the centre light , can I just buy a new one and replace it , or do I also have to buy the other sensor that sits underneath the speedo console

am I right in thinking I can just unplug the old sensor and install a new one, with the same MHz , without having to recode anything

thks guys ,

ps, going to kick myself , got a hawkeye and should plug that in first to see if it will give me any fault codes, dooohhhhh , lol

You can replace the sensor on its own up by the interior light on a 3 door.

The module on the top of the instrument pack is the remote receiver.

The sensitivity may be able to be adjusted via T4/Hawkeye

Is the cabin airtight as movement of air inside when locked can trigger the volumetrics

cheers mate , yes it's the 3 door one that's sits up under the light, I had this in the past , but since the weather has changed and now damp inside the only way I could stop it was just one turn of the key and not super locking it

I haven't found any drafts etc within the cabin or whistling from any Windows so I assume the sensor is faulty

however , I've got smoke pellets, if I got one lit it it inside the car that would tell me if any seals are going ??? , as the smoke would come out past the seals whilst I was outside watching around the car

I did turn the vents off in the car, yet kept going off when the remote was used, nothing for a few days with it just being locked with the key

not sure about the hawkeye, but I'm defentely a doughnut for not plugging that in before asking the question , lol

going to plug the hawkeye in tommorow to see if any faults appear , before I order anything

seems as always different boxes,lol

got the part number of ywc 106313

seems the ywc 106310 is for earlier models

my vin starts with 2a

plus I think I will be buying second hand

new ones are £200 quid, gulp

a small flying insect can set it off .. or maybe i doesn't have to be flying ..
weather still be mild ..

The sensitivity may be able to be adjusted via T4/Hawkeye
that would be useful

had mine go off a couple of times .. mid summer .. wee hours of the morning ..
p.i.t.a. .. no 'break-in' .. just a trapped in flying insect as it turned out ..

Smoke pellet in the car, somewhere safe, obviously. Switch on the ignition with the blower on low blowing into the footwell to pressurise the cabin. This might give you a clue as to an air leak.
Of course you might simply have had an insect in the car.

If yer has a soft top the wind hitting it will flex it and can set the alarm oft.

hi

turned on the alarm again today with the fob , after 10 mins went off, so reverted to locking it again with the key for now

plugged in the hawkeye and it came up

fault e
engine Ecu random
code xor error
fault 0

got an old tin , put the smoke pellet inside, put the fan on , thks for that idea

it took about 10 mins and then smoke started to come out of the rear window, on the right side of the seal

looking at the rear window it has yet again gone over to the left hand side so is not equal, will remove the rear trim and readjust it

my next port of call is to remove the headlining and check if any water ingress has happended through the roof from the aerial

no insects etc, just a thought has the alarm got a gyro sensor, reason I ask is if I turn the car round it didn't go off for hours , turn the car back round and goes off after 15-20 mins, wonder if there's a sensor to simulate if the car is being lifted , ???

still, all good fun , always enjoy trying to pin down faults, yeh I know need to get out more

do t know what the fault codes mean on the hawkeye , apart from saying the alarm went off, but isn't narrowing it down

will of course report back my findings and resolve meant of the alarm issue

also see on the web site my freelander.com that there was a recal issue on the alarms going off, but it was for the 5 door

thks again guys

good info :) never knew they had problems with that sensor

"Volumetric sensor affected by normal cabin air moisture when vehicle is left unattended."
sounds like my smoke alarm .. steam will set it off

neither did I, with regards to the recall, seen plenty of posts with regards to the alarm going off

waiting for my son to come over as I'm going to remove the headlining , doesn't look too bad to get out

can check all the aerial and also to get the old sensor out

will take some pics so it may then help others

Don't know about vehicle specifics but most alarms have a trembler switch. Think Top Gear, blipping the throttle in a supercar setting the alarms of in a line of parked cars....

Seems likely if which way round it's parked makes a difference that it's the fault. It might be separate from the sensor.

Info on location and nature of alarms is necessarily cagey. A main dealer will know but probably won't tell you.

cheers mate , just made me think with regards to a switch sensor, ie if someone tried to hook it up on the back of a tow truck would the alarm go off

due to it making a difference according to which way I park the vehicle

I did actually ring my local stealer and u must have known , lol, wouldn't tell me anything apart from the labour cost , £110.00 per hour , plus parts plus vat , a new box is £210.00 quid plus vat

on the hawkeye , in the security section it did have synchronise key and also synchronise engine ecu, didn't wish to go into them in case I messed up the chip communication

will get the headlining out first , doesn't look too bad in getting it out , famous last words , remove the box to see if there's any water ingress, then buy a second hand one, seen plenty on eBay for around £30 quid

with the box removed will then see if by the use of a multimeter I can then get some comparison readings with that and another second hand one , so that I can put my findings and readings up on here to help others who have problems

thks again

local stealer .. labour cost , £110.00 per hour
effing 'ell !!!
be £65 an hour here @ local stealer dealer .. but that's only for Hippo1's ..
with other models the price goes up

I dread to think what they charge for a Range Rover , I know I certainally wouldn't be able to afford a landy if I had to pay these rates

a real rip off considering most garages charge around £50 an hour

still when t I worked as a heating engineer the company charged £85 quid per hour plus parts plus vat

Main dealers charge more for many reasons. It's not just because they can. If you want a nice show room it costs. If you want LR trained peeps working on yer vehicle, it costs. If yer want the proper diagnostic kit and tools, it costs. If yer want the back office support and a free cup of tea, it costs. Labour rate should be the same for all vehicles. The allegiance scheme reduces costs for servicing after 3 years and gives discounts on spare parts, tyres, eggsause etc.
