So a couple of times now my TD5 alarm has gone off around midnight, and it’s loud. My wife is unhappy about this so it’s got to be my priority job. I’ve been looking round and it sounds like the ultrasonic movement sensor might be what’s setting it off, triggered by changes in the temperature. Has anyone managed to fix these? I’m reluctant to disconnect entirely but I will do if I have something better on the way.

I was planning on upgrading the alarm anyway so I’m reluctant to spend the £300 on a replacement sensor, but I wanted to look for a good spot to install an alarm and tracker before forked out the money for one. I know there’s already threads asking about alarms but since things move quickly, is there a current consensus on the best alarm that also provides central locking, a complete replacement for the current one? Thanks.

I’ve only had it a few weeks. It happened the night I got it and it happened last night. I bolted straight out of bed and didn’t spot anyone around. It’s a pretty quiet street. It’s on my driveway with another car parked in front of it, it’d be quite difficult to get out with that there.

Check your under bonnet alarm switch, make sure it is straight so it contacts the bonnet properly, my alarm was going off now and again and adjusting the swith stopped it, my neighbours rangerover was doing the same and I adjusted his a little higher which was on a bracket and it stopped his going off too.
The defenders is fixed on the bulkhead so you can only straighten the rubber covered switch.

if you hook it up to Computer it saves what sensor triggers the last 10 alarm activations.

or unplug Each sensor one at a time over night until the alarm stops going off, plugging it back in when you wake up.

Hooking it up to a computer sounds more like my area of expertise. I’ll look into that, are there any guides anywhere?

Does anyone have an answer to the question about a replacement alarm? What’s the go-to alarm at the moment?

its not someone deliberately making the alarm go, so that you get fed up and disconnect it then they can nick your car in silence?
Has it only recently started doing it?

This happens!
Another trick the thieving f@@ktards do is put a drink can under the wheel so when you drive off you hear a crunch, get out to check, leaving the door open and the engine running. Guess what happens next. Friend of mine caught a scrote on his cctv doing this to his tratter...

I realised yesterday that one of the rear windows was slightly open, I’m thinking this may have been causing it. I was looking into the Toad Ai606 as a replacement alarm but noticed that there was a thread about this alarm from 2010. Is really hope there was something a bit newer to replace it.

As it's a TD5, don't forget the condition of the wiring. Mine had a similar problem in that the interior light wiring tended to short in wet weather, putting the interior light on and activating the alarm, because as far as the alarm was concerned that meant a door had opened.

Do people take notice of car alarms enough to investigate in the middle of the night? unlikely unless you live in the sticks. Personally, I'd disconnect and consider fitting a tracker.
