Disco 2 Aircon repairs

Hello

A couple of years ago the clutch fell off and the garage bolted it on so ran permanently.

I am after the bolt washer and spring.

I also want to top up the gas.

Anyone have any tips or sources for parts?

some of the other cylinder are to big, but I have only ever used one to get it back to cold per car

What a bunch of schmucks .... be happy it didnt explode but probably the compressor is already fubar then cos it definitely got overheated

Has been very hot will get pressure checked if ok swap compressor, if low chuck on a clutch

Buying a SH pump for 30 quid wll use that for parts and take it from there

Gone now, they used to be good

Also have air con problems on my Discovery 4, ran pressure test and there is a leak in the hose from the condenser - the part from Landrover is £195 plus the vat alone!!

Picking up a compressor this weekend, if the clutch works will get it pressure tested. If pressure OK lots of work ahead.

Hi NI-Landy, I have not had the ne to use this yet but it could cure the leak problem you have

I have used the products above and they are OK for a temporary fix that will get you through a season. The top up gas works well on a solid system that has just gradually lost pressure, but if you have enough of a leak to need the stop leak product, you will eventually need to get it fixed.
To do a refill job properly though you need to ensure the right amount of gas/liquid in the system. Pressure is a blunt way of checking this as it is greatly affected by temperature, and to a lesser extent by air pressure and humidity. That means without very specialist tools you will need to completely drain the system (vacuum pump and storage tank) and then add the right weight of coolant.

Picked up the spare but not taken clutch off either, picked up a spare front ARB to overhaul as well

Clutch taken off donor using 10mm socket and oil filter clamp.

Small washer retained with copper grease.

Fitted plate washer and bolt to existing compressor.

Works due to rubber bush flexing.

Will look for suitable washer to reinstate donor then keep as a spare.

Fitted gas valve thing in orange (high) started off no spinning. Turned on climate spinning.

Gas pressure dropped to too low.

Ended up adding gas to 30psi.

Total cost £110

I paid over the odds by £10 to get gas yesterday

Just tested, seems OK, not brilliant but better than it was, may chuck a little more R134a in later

Il be digging into my 04 D2's aircon when I get back from work, as the high pressure side is reading way above what it should be. Well done on your repair
