Have a 2000 DHSE, which when warm, the aircon fans seem to run. With the aircon and HEVAC turned off.

Ive replaced the radiator and there was no auxilary system fitted ala Datatek. So, is there a failsafe mode that is kicking in?? Is the car about the spontaneous combust?

They should only run in an over heat situation, either refrigerent temperature or engine over temperature. Try disconnecting the sensor at the rear of the block towards the bulkhead under the inlet manifold and see if that stops them.
At this time of year, unless your engine is seriously overheating, they should never run and certainly not with the aircon off.:)

By any chance would the fact that my blend motor is not working and hence the handbook symbol is on the HEVAC have any effect... Particularily if the HEVAC was set at differing side temps??

Shall disconnect the sensor,

Temp gauge is solid in the centre as it has always been, oil is still oily and coolant is pretty solid in level.

Hmm, new it was too good to be true

Unless the tri state switch on the aircon is faulty, the aircon is unlikely to be calling the fans as there are 3 relays involved for full or half speed fan operation. Most likely is the engine temperature sensor which is a thermal switch.
I'll look up the relays in RAVE later if it will help, I can never remember the numbers.
 
Relay 13 & 14 operate the fans and if relay 18 operates, they run at half speed. The engine sensor was a late change and is not shown in the drawings that I have.

Don't have diagrams for this year but i doubt there should be one on a heater hose. Does the wiring to that look like part of the loom is is it cobbled. Photos would be helpful.

He said heater hose Keith. There is one of course but not visible from under the bonnet. So it would be interesting to see which one he is on about. :)

Yes, but I took it that he wouldn't know a heater hose from an evap hose:rolleyes:
But as you say there is also one on the heater hose but again it does not affect the aircon condensor fans.
 
Right, forget mention of an other sensor, was a random thing attached to the hose that wasnt connected to anything. No idea what it was.
 
After changing the sensor, fans still sodding around so I checked the fan after running the vehicle to temperature and it span very easily by hand. Guessing I need a new one an may as well chsnge me thermostat at the same time.

Viscous or electric? Electric should spin easily by hand, they are in front of the RAD's Viscous should be hard to turn when hot.
If the electric fans are running, it's possibly a loom problem where it passes over the chassis.
If the electric fans are coming on due to engine temperature, it is running seriously hot as the sensor setting is at least 10C above the hottest normal temperature.
 
Viscous fan is very easy to spin when its warm . Electric fans are fine, but they are cutting in so she is running very warm. Hence new viscous fan an thermostat going in before driving it again.

Should have realised there was a bigger problem when I replaced the split rad last year.
 
New viscius fan fitted, new thermostat in place an coolant changed.

Drove vehicle to plymouth an now have a temp needle that likes to wander round the dial an my rad hose on the right side of rad is swelling up rather alot.

Any idea s? I think the stat is working fine as the top of the rad is getting hot.

Woukd it be possible for the rad baffle to fail as I have cool spots around thd radiator??
