Airbag Light

all i know is lr recommend that the air bag is replaced every ten years (so they say) if you are going to fiddle with its impact sensors, just to check for loose wiring.
make sure you disconnect the battery for at least 20 min's so you give the capacitor time to discharge.
have you done any welding on it lately this sometimes upsets it if you dont disconnect the control unit before hand.

Thank for that mudee, When I got the vehicle I made enquiries at LR dealership about checking airbags, (this was before light was on), and they said that they replace the bags at a cost of £1100 for the passenger & £1300 for the drivers, plus labour & v.a.t!!. I've been in touch with total 4x4, and will be seeing them next Sat.

the air bag on the es deploys underneath the body when you get into deep water there are special sensors in the wing mirrors wich when in contact with water inflate the bag, much like a raft and on you go. lr had problems with the sensors to start with after some deploying in heavy rain, the old ones were mounted on the window wipers. but know their built inside the wing mirrors. with the disco in difflock the wheels turning is enough to propel you through the water. when your back on dry land the vacuum hoses kick in and the whole bag folds up neatly underneath.
the name es being derived from this after some one saying that looks like a big bag underneath. and from then on its been knowen as the Enormous SACK :D

At what depth of water does the airbag deploy? Only I've been through some deep puddles but its not deployed!! :D

On a more serious note, if you've got a Kenlowe fan fitted and water gets into the thermostat control unit, it shorts the terminals out and your fan keeps on running!

water up to your wing mirrors = deployment.

Have you tried putting a small plastic sarnie box round it, just to keep off the worst.

Not heard of it till now, google'd it. exspesive, about 400 quid for start up.
not much use on my 300 tdi, no ecu. ok if you get a lot of fauts with a td5 i guess.

Dont know about Rovacom lite,I have testbook, your srs light can only be sorted via a diagnostic computer. The common problems with your system relate to low battery voltage or a high resistance somewhere in the srs loom. Both can usually be reset sucessfully without coming back. The diagnostic systems available are all costly, and for private owners are probably not worth the expense. They are only 1/2 the battle to sorting the problem, the other 1/2 is interpreting what the system tells you.You really need to be using the system on a daily basis to get to know it and and get real value from it.Think you would be better to find a well recommended local independant to sort it

The system runs from the 200tdi right through to the top models, I did however notice that there was no mention of the 300tdi model. I've mailed them regarding this and wait for their reply.

I downloaded a demo of the program, it does more than you think. You can access just about everything thats attached to the vehicle!

Although the demo is based on the Range Rover it looks very comprehensive. It even has the ability to turn on / off daylight running lights!!! Ideal if you purchase a vehicle from Scandinavia!

I suppose it comes down to do you have a use for it or not and do you see it as an expensive toy or useful gadget

Thanks for that eightinavee, have got it booked in on Sat at a local 4x4 specialist, (total 4x4), I have used them before and they are very knowledgable.
I was thinking more of in the long term regarding the rovacomlite system, not entirely made my mind up yet.

the 200 tdi, im suprised at that as with the early 300's still pretty basic components. not much in the way of electronic gizmos.
but i must admit, thats the way i like it. hands on to fix it. you dont need a degree in electronics just to open the bonnet.

Discovery ES, who are Total 4x4 and where are they? I'm in Sheffield daily and have not yet found a reliable local 4x4 specialist.

Tony

discovery es
just done a check for systems that work with my disco, mmmm, not a damn thing. no abs, no exhaust gas recirculation, no 2 button remote alarm and no air bag. i think these, if fitted would have been picked up.
THANKS FOR THAT. worth checking out.

Hi guys, further update to my dilema.

It turns out that my 1994 model was in between the change over from the L reg and N reg, so LR in their infinate wisdom decided that a change of diagnostic plugs in between these years would be beneficial! Would appear that is not so, the plug that fits won't read the SRS, (cos it wasn't fitted before mine), and the newer 16 pin, no chance!!!!

Waiting for reply from garage after they have consulted techies.

My personal thought on this, if you get all light on dash, maybe LR give you a prize!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
