Hi all. I was wondering if anybody has replaced their teflon piston rings on the air compressor? Any difference and where did you get them from ?? any feedback most welcome. Paul. :)

I've just rebuilt a knackered valve block I picked up on fleabay, and am preparing to do the pump next. I got the block kit from Rover Renovations, and although there are a number of sellers knocking out pump kits on fleabay, I reckon I'll probably go back to RR for mine, cause they've got a good rep.

P38 spares bloke on E-Bay gets his from Dennis in the states,(Rover Renovations)
They are fine,I buy 10 at a time, you just need to make sure the rest of the compressor is up to rebuilding.

hey kernowdragon, what parts do you get in a rebulid kit, and how long does it take, is it an all day job, or just a few hours. i keep ketting a "RR Valve Stuck Closed" error so i think its about time to strip it.

Kit comprises basically of all the o-rings needed to refurb the block and some lubricant, and although the instructions (pdf on RR site) say diaphragm almost never needs doing I got one and did that too.

Most people say it can be done in a few hours. I took about an hour to strip it down (including spreading it out on a big sheet of paper with little pics to remind me which went where), I also marked each piece to get them back on in the right order.

Rather than scrub block in soapy water and put in oven, I opted to stick it in dishwasher and stand on top of boiler overnight to dry, which seemed to work ok.

Reassembly took a couple of hours, I reckon I could have been a bit quicker, but was paranoid about making sure everything went back right, so kept double checking, and then paint marked each bolt as I went to ensure each one was tightened and not missed.

As several people pointed out to me though that value stuck errors can be pump rather than block related, due to lack of pressure.

Forgot to mention, RR's kit also includes o-rings to replace those on the dryer, air bags, and reciever.

I did my seal last week, a relativly easy job. Its worth mentioning that the seal alone wont cure a tired pump. If the bore is scored you are wasting your time just doing the seal. Either get a complete kit that includeds the barrel and seal or whip the little tinker out and inspect first, its only a 5 min job to get the pump out and 5 mins to remove the barrel.

i took the plunge and bought a kit from the nether lands, the ones that are stated as uprated. it was delivered quick so cant complain, i stripped my compressor and fitted the new gear and was impressed at the speed the car went up at. i have fitted the standard ones before and noticed a marked improvement on the speed the uprated kit builds air at.

once the money starts coming in now christmas i was going to start going through the whole car and replacing stuff that usually fails, starting with the EAS. i dont like faults that have to wait for parts, so compressor, block and seals are where im starting.
