Air intake sphincter?

Looking at the air intake under N/S wing,it is a slot in an arrow shaped piece of rubber-presumably to shut if drowned.
For normal road use isn't this restrictive to air flow-cannot see how the turbo can see enough air if working hard-any views?

It's only a water drain valve - not the main air intake. The main air intake is above that, right at the top of the wing, so not restricted.

Its a "Dump Valve" or "Donkeys D--k". Its there to let any contaminants out of the air box.

Worth checking it's clear though so water can drain out.

Good point. When I first got my Disco, this was completely clogged up with muck.

I've sealed that part up, along with a few other holes in the bottom of the air filter box - don't want water getting in. If the air filter box has water in it and the engine is running then disaster looms, the air/water mix may get pulled in. Too late to "dump" it later !

Not the cleverest thing to do.

If you take the time to actually look at how the air box has been designed, rather than just dismissing its features and immobilising them, youll see that the dump valve sits directly under an air spinning chamber so it can release and water and dust.

My advise to anyone is to make sure the dump valve is working correctly and inspect regularly.
