Air Con

Hi All,

My air con has never worked. Always had the book symbol and ! on the screen when the air con is on. If I don’t use the air con all appear ok with no book/!

Would connecting it to a computer to read any codes tell me what part needs replacing ?

If so anyone with a reader local to the South East willing to read them for me ?

Fans also appear a bit weak, or is that what they are generally like ?

Well first thing I'd try as its free if it doesnt work is pop down to a Kwik Fit that does air con regassing, they'll stick it on the machine, recover any gas and oil still left in the system and then do a leak test. If its then ok they'll put the right amount of gas and oil back in and if alls well you'll have air con and a bill to pay. If its got a leak or it still doesnt work they'll recover all their gas and oil again and not charge you.

Hi Adrian, I've had endless issues with the air conditioning on my P38. Agree, first step will be to get the gas checked. But also get the whole system pressure tested to make sure there is no loss of compression in the condenser. Mine had a hole in it due to a stone unfortunately getting in/cracking the condenser so had to get it replaced. Also if radiator system also has issues you will need this checked too, plus make sure you don't have any fluid coming into the driver footwell as the heater matrix could also be leaking. As far as I know this seems to cause problems with the whole ventilation/cooling/heating system. Then if all checks out ok, you should be fine and nicely chilled once more.

Usually HEVAC Book issues can be diagnosed without a fault reader with the above links but not always, at least its a start.

I dont know anyone in your part of Kent with code reader, unfortunately.

I had exactly the same symptoms as you.

No problems unless I put the air-con on and then the book came up.

I took it to ATS last week to get it regassed. They've filled it up and it works fine now. Cost me £45, but I thought for that price it was worth a punt. So far it has been!
