hi guys

another daft question when i put my air con on it takes about 5 mins or so to start blowing out cold air is this about right.

cannot hear the belt slipping but was wondering if it needs regassing or is this normal to take this amount of time

thanks again

hi

thanks, i would hear my belt slipping wouldnt i on the compressor.

is there anything else i should look for

if not i think i better get it regassed then i know it was very hot today

all the best

Is this when driving?

At idle turn the aircon on and you should feel one pipe go hot and one cold. If they dont, its flat.

Kwikfit offer a £49 service where if you dont see an improvement you dont pay.

yes this is when driving

i will lift the bonnet up tommorow and check that out,

thanks for that

from experience, the longer it takes to blow cold, the more it needs regassing. mine takes a minute or so to get going, the wife's zafira could take over 5 mins, then it was regassed and comes out cold in about 30 secs now.

Mine was blowing out hot air. Started slowly getting less and less cold until it actually felt hotter come out of the vents with the aircon button pressed than it did with just the fans blowing. I drove to London from Scotland on the hottest day of the year this year and Me & the wife melted. Popped into Kwik Fit on the way back to get it regassed and it was instantly ice cold like new. Like was said earlier, £49 and if it's not noticeably different (I think they say at least 10 degrees cooler) you don't pay a penny. Simple, quick fix.

hiya

popped the bonnet today and after starting up the car put my hand on the air con pipes, i wasnt sure which pipe was suppose to get hot or cold but i didnt think it mattered.

well i stood there holding the pipes for around 4 mins and still no difference so like you guys say will pop it down to kwik fot and get it regassed.

you also mention about a blend motor , sorry never heard of one.

if i may ask another daft question how do i know the compressor is working.

but i think the first point of call is to cover the obviuos first and get the pressure checked out first before i go any further

funny i was about to get a home air con regassing bottles but if you say there crap wont bother with them either.

thanks again guys for all your help

Have to agree with the home re-gas kits, bought one a few years ago complete with pressure gauge, followed instructions to the letter but still no good. Paid £60 at local air con garage and had no further problems (had a problem with kwik fit in the past so definitely a none starter)

going to get my freelander re gassed in the next couple of weeks, but i bet the nice weather would have gone by then

a lot of the reason for air con thats needs re gassing is because you are supposed to opperate it at least 10 mins a week every week when it just stands it depleats also check your compressor is working if it needs re gassing it will not be get some one in the driving seat look behind the drivers side plastic flap on the bottom of the engin bay you will see the compressor then get the other person to opperate the switches it the wheel on the front of the compressor does not work then it needs re gassing there are a lot of firms do refill but get one that puts a dye in to check for leeks the most famous one is where the 2 pipes go into the bulk head (mine is a TD4 ) the little bolt for some reason comes undone you will need a new o ring from LR hope this helps

The aircon also automatically activates when you set the heater controls to demist (windscreen symbol) and helps clear the screen during the winter. Can take quite a long time to demist the screen if your aircon has packed up and you have to rely solely on the heater.

Depends on the year, not all versions do this. Mine doesn't, it's a 2001. Topic opener's is a 2002, don't know that year had that gimmick already. (Automatically activated with demisting function I mean).

Don't think I would call it a gimmick as it not only saves on fuel whilst waiting for the engine to warm up but is also a safety feature that clears the screen sooner.

So sorry that the word "facility" wouldn't come up straight away, my uncle Alzheimer playing up again.....
