Hello all, I am totally new to this forum but have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help with. 1. Is the Air Con on my 2006 TD5 CSW supposed to get cold , or just deafen you while blowing cabin temp air at your knees. 2. Has any one got any suggestions re the stereo that plays poor quality sound at my feet ? has anybody upgraded the stereo & speakers, & where have you put the extra speakers ? TIA

Deependers int supposed to have aircon. It just isn't natural. Ya landy knows this and it's body is rejecting the strange virus it's been infected with. I suggest major surgery to remove the foreign body ASAP. :D

Brilliant, thanks for that, and there was me thinking that I would not get any sensible help or answers.

:welcome2:Have a look for a local place that recharges air con systems (about £30) it is possible the refridgerant level/pressure is low as they tend to need a boost every 3 to 5 years as they do leak. If it is anything more than that they should point you in the right direction.
Cant help with stereos..... anyone any ideas re upgrades?

Has anybody got a TD5 where the air con does get COLD. I dont want to get mine recharged if it isn't going to. make any difference. I wait in anticipation !

PS, thanks for your polite AND helpful reply MrJC, so much better than my first ever received reply on this forum

As for your stereo, its a simple job to upgrade and reasonable headunits are pretty cheep anyway on ebay and the like, in my experience your probably better off getting yourself some new speakers to replace the existing factory ones which tend to be pretty dire. Although if they are mounted under the dash you're gonna need spacers but if you have a google there easy to find.

Despite buying better quality ones, larger diameter speakers (within reason) are able to reproduce sound more accuratley, so in my 90, i made up some speaker boxes fitted with 6.5" speakers in the tub.

As far as mounting places go, the tub is the most practical given the space, otherwise im afraid you'll be limited to the roof lining or behind the seats. If you have a centre cubby box, you can quite easily install decent seakers inside if your handy with a jigsaw, although the sound will be directed towards your leg which isnt ideal.

The air con should work and getting it boosted should be the first and cheapest option unless still under warranty. If you get it recharged ask them before they do it if it doesn't work will you still have to pay the full price. I understand they test the pressure and should be able to pin point any serious leaks or the like.
Without the pressure test you won't know (unless you are a wizz on mechanics) if something is leaking or has failed.
Ring a few places if you can and just be sure what service they offer. You want them to be able to pin point a fault rather than just say it aint working... we (and you) already know that:)
Hurry up... frost is due in 6 weeks!

Many thanks for the replies guys. I Have spoken to Kwik Fit who charge £45 for a recharge, but I will see if they can test the pressure first. Funny though, STILL not a single person saying that their defender air con actually gets cold !

Halfords are offering a FREE air con check... looks like they may only charge £9.99 to top it up? Check this out and give them a call. If its a free check... its a winner:D

Just spoke to Halfords, they charge £9.99 to use the top up refill that they charge you £39.99 to buy. Very confusing web site that !! It does indeed read that it will cost £9.99 BUT it doesn't. This makes them more expensive than Kwik Fit who do it properly , not out of a can, by a 16 year old in the car park.
