For some reason the air con pipes in the engine bay are freezing up.. ice starts forming all over the pipes and I have no idea why?:confused:

(Discovery 95' Manual 300TDi)

Any help will be appreciated!!!

Definitely short of gas or refrigerant for the correct term.
but it is only low on gas because it has leaked out and it should not leak so therefore it will need to be pressure tested and repaired first. Normally this is done with oxygen free nitrogen and bubble check for leaks like on an inner tube. hen it will need to be evacuated ten re gased .

if the smaller pipe is freezing and its not blowing cold, its low on gas, the fact it is freezing means there is some there is some still in it and the leak cant be that big, worth getting it re-gassed, or you can buy re-gass kit from halfords(not sure if they are any good, but it says it contains sealant that can seal small leaks) hope this helps

first of all, does your air con operate ok? if the pipes are freezing up when your aircon is running then the thin High Pressure pipe should be warm ish and the fatter Low Pressure pipe should be cold most cars can have condensation forming on the pipe or a layer of frost on it, As long as your air con is getting cold when you want it then you have nothing to wory about.
