Hi all,

I have a 1996 4.6 HSE right hand drive in Australia - brilliant car!

Recently my air con has started showing the 'book' sign and blowing hot out on the left no matter how low I dial the temperature.

I've checked the blend motors and they work fine. I initially thought a temp sensor, but I think this would apply to both sides?

The air out of the left is cold, but not what I'd call really cold compared to other cars - is this typical?

Also delivery of cold air to the back seats is pitiful, again does anyone know if this is typical?

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

Is the book icon showing up??

As Josh said, rear air delivery isn't a strong point on the P38's.

Hi,

The book icon is showing up on the display.

I also thought it might need regassing, but I don't think in its current state, the airconditioning would only blow cold out on the right

Regards,

Jonathan

strangely enough, I've just jumped into the car and the book icon didn't come on at all. On the return journey it did.

In answer to your post, no, the display is clear for a couple of seconds before the 'book' icon appears.

I had a problem with my Air Con on my discovery TD5, read that the temp should be blowing around 5 or 6 degrees. Mine was 14. I contacted
Cool Tech offer car air conditioning repairs in Glasgow.
who very quickly and cheaply tested the whole system and found via ultra violet dye that there was a leak in the pipe that runs to the drier, I would never have found it.
Had already wasted money trying to have the syetem regassed at Halfords - should have known better.
I may be worth giving Cool Tech a call or e mail, he may save you a lot of money (he owns land rovers himself).
I do not have an interest in Cool Tech I just like good service at a good price.
I was charged £30 for the diagnostics even although it took a good couple of hours.
Also saved money on replacing the pipe as I has the front stripped off including the old pipe.
He's a good guy give him a try.

Thanks Bigggee,

Unfortunately for me, if he wanted to see the car it would cost me big big $'s in fuel to drive from Melbourne, Australia

But what a challenge!
