My air con compressor clutch has started to make a whining noise. When the air con is on, it stops. When the air con is off, it starts. This is because the air con clutch is disengaged, when the air con is off. Hence the bearings are spinning round. When the air con is on, it locks up the clutch so the bearings which are thought to be the cause of the whining, don’t spin.

Question is, how do I grease/oil them? Can’t see a hole to oil them. Can I buy a new clutch asy to replace mine?

Slacken drive belt and spin the pulley by hand it should spin freely with a very smooth/silent operation for several revolutions. Any harshness would indicate failed bearings. A search on the web should find replacement parts from aircon specialists. D..

The oil you can see in the photo is spun off from the pulley whilst spinning. This is oil I tried to fix the problem with. I didn’t see any oil splash prior to this. So I don’t think it has leaked.

The pulley doesn’t spin freely. It stops within one rev. Problem is, when I remove the bolt on the middle of the pulley, I can’t extract the mechanism to see what’s inside. Do I need to chisel off the 3 squashed pins (only 2 pins shown in the photo) to split it apart?
