i have removed the plate, there was no washer behind the nut, but there was a washer behind the plate so i removed that. what is a shim because as far as i could see there
was nothing else behind there.
it worked when i put it back together but i wont know for sure if it has cured it till tomorrow.

I am going to throw something else into the mix..... I seem to remember reading that there is a known problem with the wiring loom leading to voltage drop at the clutch. I do believe that there is a Land Rover auxillary loom available that cures this by re - routing power via an auxillary relay. Might be worth investigating ?

Monty...connect the two wires together that are not connected to the thermal cut out.

As Rewmer says..there was a modification as some cars did suffer from voltage drop to the clutch coil. Basically, it involves using the positive feed to the clutch to trigger a relay, with normally open contacts which has a separate fused supply feeding one side of the contacts and the clutch coil positive going to the other side of the contacts.
I have found though that the over temp. cut out on especially V8's do play up frequently. As previously posted, they are almost impossible to get...........unless someone knows different!!!!!
