Air Con belt

Driving home last night usual 40 mile trip and 1 mile from home started to smell burning, pulled up at home and my air con belt has been chewed up and spat out :-(

I have had the belt on for around a week and a half after fitting because it was missing when I bought the car.

does this sound like my air con pump clutch is goosed or any other thoughts???

Sounds like it has seized not unknown. I have a couple seized solid in my scrap. If you get a new one make sure it has oil in it. The oil in the refridgerant only lubs one side of it.

Yup 100% right it's solid :-(

it was working and had gas in the system??

This mean this unit is now dead?? or are we able to salvage them??

What tension did you apply to the pulley? I gave up with mine a while back because the viscous kept eating my ac belts!

First was too lose, didn't use a torque meter.
Second was too tight, made some funny noises then snapped a day later
Third was 8nm as per rave and fell off again down the road

All were LR belts and each time it moved freely and ran the AC until they failed - just wasn't meant to be for me I guess....

Followed instructions from Rave?

Air con was working for over a week (granted not much use due to weather)

Will leave it for now as plenty of other things that are more important to sort first

They will run freely for ever more if the compressor is seized, as long as you don't engage the aircon.
