I just started a controversy in the Defender Forum and thought I should apologize and introduce myself.

I’ve wanted a Defender for as long as I can remember, must have been 6 or 8 years old. Well, 40 year later I finally fulfilled my dream and got a 1999 Defender 110. We got this vehicle because we honestly need it.

I live with my Brazilian wife and two children in the middle of a national park in the Czech Republic. Our driveway through the forest is three kilometers long and we had 1.40 meters of snow two years ago. Together with my son we set 4 tire chains 52 times last year, removing them at the end of the road (pavement) and replacing them on the way home. This year we have a second older Lada Niva, with mounted tractor tires and chains, for driving up the road and a new Lada Niva for driving into work and school. For those of you who are not familiar with the Lada Niva, look it up, there a great little 4 wheeler made in Russia.

We keep the Defender parked in the garage and use it only for longer trips or cleaner trips or more people trips (about once a week). Other vehicles – ’69 Russian GAZ or GAS and now rebuilding (5 times in last 30 years) a 1959 Harley

We produce our own electricity with a generator on a nearby stream, heat with wood and it’s been snowing all week. We enjoy dog-sledding, building with giant ice cubes and skating and fishing on the pond two meters from the house. See our family Christmas website and check out the gingerbread house my wife made this year Santaclaus - A Family Christmas

It’s an honor to be here amongst fellow Land Rover (especially Defender) owners and I hope to meet you all one day somewhere down the road.

Peace and a safe trip
