I'm looking to get an agreed value put on my insurance for my Defender. And wondering what people appraise it's value at?

It's a 1992 on a J Defender 200tdi (genuine factory fitted), 75k from new with all MOT'S to prove, new lt77s gearbox, recent clutch, new brakes and wheel bearings all round, new Bailey Morris front double cardan prop, new rear standard prop, new front tfr box output shaft, bearing, flange, etc, it has a 2" lift, 16" modulars with off road tyres, tree sliders, chassis is great, new Pressbrake HD rear cross member, rest of the chassis is 100%, bulkhead is great, no rust or welding, doors ok, chequer plate kit, spotlights and light bar, snorkel, winch and HD winch bumper, rear bumperettes, CB radio, tidy interior, seats all good and unripped, new LED angel eye crystal headlights, new front grille and surrounds, headlight protector grilles, new light lenses all round and new reverse/fog lights, fibre glass headliner, recent full service and all fluids changed, recent new steering box and pump, no oil leaks to speak of. I've spent circa £4k on it getting it sorted.

Insure it for what you paid for it for, you will never get back what you have put into it and if you insure it for more than you paid for it you end up paying more in the end :)

Yep pretty much.

I had an agreed valuation on my 1958 Beetle for £10k.

But I know the VW market really well, I have no idea on the Landrover markets, I'm just after a fair valuation of it, ie to buy something similar would cost xxxx pounds. Is £5k a fair valuation or is that too much?

You tend to have the value re - appraised every year, so if there are any changes they hopefully pick up on it.

With all the bits and what I've spent on it id like to get a reasonable agreed valuation and a reasonable idea of its value.

The agreed value of my 1990 110 Hard Top 2.5 NAD is £4k, and as it is now a 25 year old vehicle it is classed for insurance purposes as a Classic.

Hope that might be a bit of a guide.

Cheers.

I'll try £4.5k and see if that's agreed.

I was hoping it would be worth a bit more with all the work done to it, but never mind.

You could have spent £20k on it and it would not have raised the agreed value much, and it would probably increase your premiums to astronomical proportions!

Value doesn't really affect the policy cost, I doubled the agreed value on my bug after doing some work to it and the cosy didn't change.
