age? built 1980 registered 82..

Just bought neigbours series 3 and was wondering the story of its age.

says on v5 it was built in 1980, but says first registered 1982.

dunno masel. so is it an x or a v in reality.

and why would this have been? did it sit in the garage for 2 years, or was it cos its first owner was Stanstead airport and it would have run about airside without being road registered?

Sounds like yer jest answered yer own question with the Stanstead bit.

If it was an airport car it woudn't have been registered for the road until it needed to go on it, but i am pretty sure that they would have given it a post-dated registration letter as it isn't possible to make a car look newer than it actually is - so they would have applied a letter commensurate with its year of manufacture despite that not being the current registration letter.

My folks imported a greek audi into the UK and had it registered here in 1995 when it was 4 years old and it was shown as a 1995 registered car but had a "H" plate applied to it.

worked perfectly until it suddenly didn't.. presumably at point-of-fookage.
