Just bought the cruise control kit from fleabay, just wondering if anyone else has added one of these kits to their TD5 which didn't have it as standard.

Took battery off waited 20 mins fitted switch on dash (took 30 secs) then took off airbag before cutting hole this was the hardest part ( mirror image of radio cut out) then put airbag back , battery back on job done

i've heard using a hot knife with a cheap maplins soldering iron works well.. don't sue me if you torch your disco though ;)

has got to be the best money i spent on my disco
took 30 mins
10 to remove air bag 10 to cut out 10 tofit and replace
an easy job

I wanted to install it, went to a LR official shop and.. They asked me the VIN number and told me my car cannot have it installed !

Can it be true? I have a May 2001 disco. I understood ALL D2´s could have it retrofitted.

Can anyone proof wrong or confirm such statement? Thank you.

Just get the two switches and fit them.
End of discussion! Why did you even ask a LR dealer?
Ask here.
Landyzone might wind us all up a bit, but won't tell lies.

I was quoted £840 by a main dealer, to retro-fit cruise control.
I did it myself in an hour for less than £30!

As I understand it all TD5 Discos can, not the V8s.....

Mine is the entry level TD5, they don't come any more basic (no ace, no air susp. etc. etc.) and it works a treat, OK its not as sensitive as the old Merc but it saves me from cramp on the Motorway. I got switches from a breaker.

Well fitted mine this afternoon and didnt even need to discon the airbag, just made sure the batt neg was off.
20min job hardest part was cutting the hole but my new dremel from santa made short work of that :)

I didn't have the radio code when I did mine so didn't want even to disconnect the negative on the battery... an expert at the UK crash testing centre assured me it was extremely difficult to activate an airbag accidentally by handling it... I still covered it with a pillow though whilst I worked on fitting the cruise switch:D:D

It isn't AIR that blows up so-called 'air bags'.

It's a small explosion of what amounts to pistol cartridge gun-powder.

VERY fast to inflate, and also fast to DEflate.

Take Care!

Have Fun!
