After a new 4x4, help and advice please !

seats are easily swapped, there are loads of different types depending on budget/capability.

some fit subaru, vauxhall, volvo. mine are recaros from a ford escort when i get round to it. These may need a little fettling and dont really give you easy access to battery box.

range rover classic seats are apparently an easy swap so disco could be the same.

If your budget allows, later defender or even exmoor trim would be the most straight forward (and costly).

Door seals are cheap (from £3 for bottoms to around £15) if they need doing.

A td5 heater is apparently a straight swap and gives better heat than the older models.

For 3K I would be looking for a tdi conversion rather than a TD. There are some good TD engines but a lot of bad ones too (they are at least 20+ years old after all).

Loads of cheaper, rougher looking defenders in your budget on ebay which will leave you plenty of "mod" money after and parts dont cost the earth.

Snorkel £60-£200
Lift Kit £100 - £1000 (from 2" springs to cranked arms etc)
tyres £250 - £600
Seats £20 (scrappy) to £500 (exmoor)

The benefit of getting a cheap one is learning as you go and if there are any problems you have the cash to sort them. A seller can be as honest as possible but after all is said and done they will be wanting rid of the vehicle so 9 times out of 10 you will always find something.

better than the originals imo. although the red one will prob have a reserve over what you are looking to pay. iirc late 300tdis will fetch at least 4500 upwards.

the last one has most of the stuff done to it that you sound like you want (but prob wont need ) but no pics of the chassis? the xmember might make it through another mot but how long after? (could be the pics though).

Land Rover : good solid deffender - not for that money, too many miles and door corrosion usually starts at the inside out.

Land Rover : Landrover 90 200 TDI - if he gets that my 90 will be on there within the week.

unless i can find a classic

i spose my only other option would be something like this, if say it was nice, and have that comfort and style, but then the p38 risk, il be honest i cant really be doing with hefty/regular bills etc, want somethign quite reliable and bombproof , yet anythings not going to get heavy use

thanks mate appriciate it, a lot to think about, i know i dont "need" all the of road type stuff...however id soon get in to off roading and green laning more if i had a defender and be a good fun all year round thing , i know that, a lot to think about then with regards to seats etc, and nice elather disco seats...would they fit or be to big ?

none of them above stand out as ok ? what about the yellow ?

so what do you think about the blue one ?

orginal engine 2 .5 turbo diesel i did a full service on it 3 months ago along with gearbox oil changed as well as both axles and fuel tank flushed and rad to and everything else is new . thanks

about making it mine how i want..i like the idea of that, i am also open to maybe a cheaper one thats solid still but maybe a bit beat, army green etc if priced right, and leaves me a lot of money to play with on it, had a real good chat about them with the owner of the one i drove, he said..even if this isnt for you you at least know about them etc, top bloke, he was telling me how its all bolt on/off for the window panels, can make them soft tops and all the rest of it , which i didnt know about

he even said..its possible to make the seat go back further with cutting the panel behind it, is that doable and wise or to be avoided ?
