Advise: 2000 HSE 4.6

I have a 2000 HSE 4.6 that I purchased about 6 months ago with 27,500
miles on it. The vechicle looks great and runs well...sort of... The
vehicle is all over the road when drive at higher speeds. I had an
alignment done to no avail. Note that the alignment wasn't done at a
Land Rover dealer but at the foreign car 'specialist'. Any have any
thoughts?

What is the tyre wear like front to back? Are the front tyres less
worn than the rear. Having newer tyres on the front can lead to
strange handling problems. My Disco II was a little "vague" until I
swapped the fairly new fronts to the reasonably worn rears around. The
difference was noticable within the first 100m of driving. This is not
a 100% conclusive test as the tyres front/back are different makes

How ever I am also fairly sure that new front/old rear tyres was a
contributary factor in a wall and roll incident that wrote off my
previous motor. Slightly slippy conditions (road damp and cold but
*not* icy) backend decided it wanted to overtake the front and despite
3 attempts to correct the oversteer the backend just wasn't going to
play. Subsequent digging on the web has shown from reliable sources
that new front/old rear is not to be recomended at least on front
wheel drive vehicles.

What's it like under braking?
Does it stop nice & straight from emergency stop?

I've just finished (2 days work) fitting polybush kit & new dampers
to mine.
Most noticeable difference was replacing the rear radius arm bush's.
None of the bush's seemed particularly bad, only a little soft...age related
I guess.
It now drives really well & stops in a straight line during emergency stop.
If you go down this route stick with original land rover bush's in panhard
rods.
