Hello all,

1st post so be nice please!

I need to replace our aging Ford Explorer (don't laugh) and I've seen a 2006 4.2 SC with less than 20k on the clock and FLRSH. Crazy-low mileage, but it was exported by the owner when he was posted to the Middle East and there are not that many paces to drive. He and his Range Rover are now back in the UK.

It looks great, but then I've read lots of horror stories about the reliability of Range Rovers.

I don't do too many miles so I'm not that worried about the fuel efficiency, but I still need to be able to do long autoroute runs in comfort (yes, I live in France).

What are your experiences with these great cars? Have you any advice regarding the reliability issues? Am I mad to consider something like this - I'm no Rockerfeller!

Cheers.

If you are an avid DIY mechanic and strong on electronics then go ahead.
Seriously, they are not too bad if serviced regularly, lots of niggles but generally they keep rolling.

Putting your location may put you in touch with other owners in France.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I'm fine with working on cars, but if I'm spending the best part of 30k on a premium brand vehicle, I don't want to be having to get under it every few weeks to fix something - routine maintenance, no problem, but having to keep fixing things that break shouldn't be necessary, to my mind.

Regular servicing will be done by my local LR dealer.

And thanks Datatek, I'll sort that out in the profile section.

Cheers.

LR might be a premium brand, but the quality is crap, if you are going to use a dealer for serving budget about £3k a year.
If you want a car that just needs routine servicing, get a Land Cruiser.
I have Range rover because they are the cheapest secondhand 4 x 4 available. Why are they so cheap second hand? Because they are always needing attention:mad:
On the L322, door handles break, the steering column adjusment breaks, the electrically folding wing mirrors fail, the electronics in the left hand side of the boot fail due to water ingress, on the diesel the auto box has a life expectancy of 60K miles if you are lucky, the paint peels off the seat bases, the window surrounds and brake lines corrode, the list is endless:eek:
