Hey guys! Ive been offered this landy for £4700. Tried to buy it on ebay but was out bid. But winner didnt call so he asked if i wanted it! Its more than i wanted to pay as ive not sold my car yet. He has 4 90's on ebay all sold but all now relisted except that white one! I havent seen it and cant get anyone to view it for me. You think its susspect?

What do you think?

1997 LANDROVER DEFENDER 90 300 TDI STATION WAGON WITH ONLY 92,000 MILES | eBay

If in doubt walk away. Gotta be a reason why none his vehicles have sold. Usual reason is because he's been bidding on his own vehicles.

& that is over priced by at least a grand.

No ebay protection if you complete the sale off ebay, or did he send you a 2nd chance offer? If not it would make me think the buyer went to view and found something was significantly misstatement in the eBay listing. Otherwise the seller can take action.

I don't know why you would pay more than you wanted to for a car you haven't seen.

Usual scenario is:

You bid on a Landy advertised 99p start price no reserve. So you bid say £5k. No one else bids and hey!! you win it for 99p. Poor seller doesn't want this nitemare so he opens a 2nd account and bids £25k Knowing that no one is gonna bid that much.. When the auction ends he's the winner. But he knows, exactly how much everyone else bid. So as long as the higest real bidder went high enough, he contacts him and offers it at the highest price bid.

Result the winning bidder pays top price instead of the price he would of got it for if the auction had been run fairly and legally.

If the mug falls for it.

good advice guys! it is over priced but thats seems to be every 90 at the moment! just wish i could get somone to view it!

And i think your right about him bidding on his own cars as all the winning bids had a 0 ebay score....

cheers!

Hes from up north so naturally hes a ####
Its a white 90 so hes a double ####
Did I mention hes from up north?
Everyone on ebay has dodgy bidders on their sales!

To be honest I bought mine on ebay, sight unseen, you have to be savvy and drill the seller. Everything on mine added up nicely, owner's story tallied, very pleasant conversation and what I bid was right for what I was getting even for an mot fail, and I knew it was probably a candidate for replacement chassis.

I'm from up North, so make of this what you will :D

My Landy is the same age and a genuine CSW. Mine has 4 individual seats in the back, not bench seats, and I don't think any were fitted with bench seats.

You can see deformities in some panels, especially on passenger side.

If the bottom of the doors have been touched in then the steel frame behind is in poor nick. Looks like it's had a quick spray job.

The pictures inside the doors cleverly do not show the side of the seat box - dodgy!

If the chassis has had to have a few patches in places then the rest is going to be poor I reckon. The rear cross member must be iffy at least.

CSW have a smart (for Land Rover) door card even on the rear door.

The receipts had a lot of time between them, but I didn't see a standard service/oil change in all that time. I would have shown them.

It doesn't look honest for its age, neither is the patter, so I probably wouldn't have gone to look at it, never mind buy it on trust.

Cheers mate. Nice to have an official welcome along side being made to feel welcome by a mass of superb responses to my threads. Loads of great help and support. Great forum.

I bought my current 110 off ebay. I bid for it based on worst case scenario and always expect the worst so if it turned out to be ****e I would have still paid the right money for it. It was finishing at a funny time, about midnight on the saturday between xmas and new year, so I was hoping it might slip through cheap and it did. Turned out to be way better than I was expecting and bearing that in mind it was a very good buy. 1992 110 station wagon with the rear windows removed so making it a van back, nearly a full MOT and a few months tax, tidy everywhere except for a bit of bubbling on the bulkhead and runs like a dream, paid 2100 quid. So ebay isn't all bad but I agree it is full of rogues and scammers these days.
