Hi all
About a month ago I aquired a 1984 110 county station wagon. However the deal was that I could buy it and fix it up but not keep it. Apparently 4 land rovers is too many. However I've discovered that the 1984 county station wagons have some rare features. Such as removable door tops on all 4 doors, self levelling suspension all of which are present.
But it's also had a 200tdi put in and a discovery transfer box for higher gearing.

My big question is that I'm unsure in which direction to take the restoration. The vehicle is so far from being original that to try and make it an original example will be extremely costly however it has enough of the original parts that it would be a crime to modernise it further. Yet many buyers will not be interested in two piece doors All around unless it's from someone who knows about them and doesn't just want a status symbol.
I will also be splashing out on a proper paint job. And the original paint was brown and limestone and brown is not the most appealing colour unless you want a superb example of a classing station wagon.
However I feel like by the end I would've spent a fortune restoring it but by being slap bang on the middle of an original vehicle and a modernised one that there'll be very few people interested in buying it.
If I was to keep it I would build it how I want but I'll never get away with keeping it.

Go for as original a restoration as possible. That way you can tell her you can't quite get hold of that elusive original part made out of unobtanium, and keep it a bit longer. Problem solved.

I think it sounds pretty good - the original doors etc, with a more recent engine/gearbox. I bet if you painted it in the Red/limestone colours it would sell better - buyers love a red vehicle! (and you only have to paint the bottom part).

She won't forget, she complains on a daily basis about no where to park because land rovers have all the space.
The chassis too is very original only needing a rear crossmember, the rest has never been welded. The headlining is also in very good condition.

Unfortunately I can't just paint half as someone painted it a metallic brown.

i think i'd clean it up and restore as it.

you can always change the engine and gearbox after without harming too much.

also the engine and gearbox will make it a lot easier to drive.. some people will prefer that

I was going to paint it pastel green and limestone. As Its a very classic Land Rover colour similar to the heritage editions of the defender. And I believe an original colour option.
