advice on my crusty hole

Just spent the day cleaning and checking my chassis and found 2 holes just in front of the rear shock top mounts.

Do I remove the mounts, cut out the rot, plate over then re drill holes for shock mounts?

What gauge of metal is best? Cant see any repair panels for this bit so I guess its CAD (cardboard aided design)?

I use 2.5mm, sometimes 2mm depending on what's available in my local fabricators skip for chassis patches. It's not a good idea to go too thick as you'll make a stiff patch and new stress points either side.

It's a safe bet the rot runs behind the brackets so removal is needed to do it properly.

Make a template first to re drill the correct place for the mounts, they have to be spot on.

Ok bud. I'm going to fit new mounts while I'm at it so I'll get my best crayons out and sort it from there. Is it worth playing the inside face too?

Bear in mind that there are braces or possibly tubes in that area to prevent the chassis crushing.

Good point. Was going to cut tube to use as spacers in between the plates to stop that. Just hope I dont melt my wiring harness.

you could do what my po did and hack the harness in half using something vaguely sharp just after it exits the chassis, pull it back out the way, and then rejoin it afterward using whatever tape/sticky substance is nearest to hand. But I would not recommend that! It is easy enough to disconect the harness and pull it back through out of the way if you are really worried, it depends on how large a patch is needed once the mounts have been removed as to if it will be worth doing this.
