sorry to be a pain in the anus but im looking at a disco at 6pm (its only a 2 min walk down my mums road) and going for a test drive...had a quick look around it chatted to the owner this is what i know so far...

"G" reg 1990 registerd 2.5td
140,000 miles
new clutch
new piece welded in the boot
4 months tax
11 months MOT

he did say it has a leak on the power steering..not sure where but im not sure if this is a biggy of a job?

it looks a bit "weathered" but no real rot or damage to it, it has part service history an this bloke has looked after it himself, he is a friend of my mum and dad so he aint a pikey trying to flog a shed (hopefully!) the tyres are about bald but a new set of tyres off ebay shoudnt be too much??

he is asking £850 for it but im sure with my charm i could cut him down a bit!

i would look through the threads to find out more but im a bit pushed for time! thanks for any help/advice given!

Only Advise is, you got 11 month ticket for MOT, Any Rust & Whats the body work like ?????? take it for a test drive

£850.. flash the cash and I reckon you could knock Im down to £775, Considering you need a new set of threads

yep as above just rust boot floor, inner front wheel arches, rear arhes, sills, there the main killiers of the top of me head but its got 11 months mot on it should be half decent, good drive check all the low high diff lock etc all engages and drives as it should

"G" reg 1990 registerd 2.5tdI !!
140,000 miles
new clutch

11 months MOT

Make sure it doesn't look like this.http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/keep-scrap-79335.html Most of this rot was hidden by body trim & carpets. & it had a couple of months MOT so don't let the fact it's got an MOT fool you

I Paid £280 for that one and £350 for my current L Reg one with very little rot (inner wing is fooked) but boot floor wheel arches etc is solid.

£850 for a G Reg is taking the **** £400/£500 would be more like a fair price.

would a G reg have a 2.5td in it? i thought it would have a 200tdi? i looked at strut mounts and the arches yesterday and all seemed ok and pulled up boot carpet and the floor looked like new! im still worried about the power steering leak would this be big bucks?

Nope brandnew pas box is about £80 to £100 but a capful of brake fluid in the reservoir usually stops most leaks.

All diesel discoveries had a TDI. injun fitted

good to hear! i do think £850 is a bit much but if i can get it down to below £700 i will probs go back with the cash at the weekend! so long as its not that much of a shed to drive!

That really depends on where it's leaky. Be a bit cautious if it's the steering box leaking (great big lump down the bottom of the engine bay). I can only talk about Disco 2's but it's just cost me about £600 to get one fitted.

It probably isn't that though, so have a look!

200tdi Recon steering box is £80 to £100. plus ya old PAS box in exchange

i think it prefer to pay 600 quid to have one fitted cus boy are they a c**t to fit on your own :p as already sed though as long as its a seal leaking add some brake fluid to swell the seal most probaly cure it unless it does what mine did and dump all in one shot:eek:

load of bollocks just buy it with a new droparm already fitted extra £25 or thereabouts. Piece of **** to fit then.

£115 Plus VAT for a ****part box for a d2. so garage probably paid about £75 & charged £525 labour

You're probably 100% wrong!

I bought it for £235 inc. VAT , reconned with a drop arm. The garage fitted it a rate of £35/hour, with a total of 5 hours. There was a £10 charge for fluid. The pipes were replaced at a cost of around £75 + VAT, genuine Land Rover.

Does that all sound OK to you?

The garage didn't buy the box because it would have cost me more, they advised me to buy it so that I would save money.

Interesting that you call Britpart "****part" - I wonder why I didn't buy one of them then!

seems a bit odd? as Trade prices are always a fraction of retail prices. But hey that's garages for you.

I wasn't advising you to buy one. I was merely stating that they are available at that price. Most garages buy the cheapest part they can & charge as much as they can get away with.

The garage don't have a Britpart account, they only buy genuine Land Rover parts with the LR account - i.e. any parts they buy are genuine, out of the box from LR. Their advice was to spend less money somewhere else and have them fit it.
