Advice needed please

Just changed timing belt on 300 tdi come to start it takes ages eventually starts and ticks over great turn it off starts first time once started but belching out smoke it started perfect on the button no smoke before had a Land Rover guy round to check belt he said everything ok and to check pushrods and set tappets done all that still the same any advice lads. Atb Ed

I'd double check the timing, sounds like might be a tooth out

Did you use the timing setting tools to get it right. Then 360 degrees or more on the crank and check again.

No used a perfect fit drill bit

What about locking the flywheel?

Another one for a tooth out or fuel pump timing very slightly out which can happen even when using timing pins. This video shows that after he has tensioned the belt.

What about the cam timing mark?
