Hi i bought a 2010 range rover sports hsr last year brand spanking new.
Forgive me as im a lady driver, so if i write something odd its because im new to all this. Anyway im having problems with my range...its been in a few times since ive had it for minor bits and bobs but a few months ago i heard a light whistling(kinda like a hoover) and its steadily got worse.
I sent it in to land rover services as its under warranty, and was told they could'nt find noise!!!
It was sent in for a service 2 weeks later at 11,000 miles nothing was reported back to me (although i was annoyed they couldn't be bothered to take the SERVICE REQUIRED alert off my dash after i'd parted with £500.00)
I then found the car to take off slower and the noise was getting higher pitched and louder, so i sent it back in on the 22nd march.
On the 23rd they called and told me it was the turbo and it needed a new one, they booked it in for the following week with the intention of fitting a new one and it being fixed by no later than the 25th.
I told them to keep the car till then as i did not want to going back and forth to drop it off and collect it.
On the 31st the manager rang me to tell me the part had not arrived and it would not be fixed, he told me they were trying to get me a NEW turbo not a RECONDITIONED turbo..are they allowed to do this?
He said i could always come and collect the car as it was still roadworthy?
I declined and told him by the 4th i would like courtesy car and he said ok and it would not be a problem.
On the 4th i rang and was told the manager was away on a course and i could not have a courtesy car as they are booked out 3 weeks in advance, but to come and collect the car as its still roadworthy.
I declined again and asked them to get the manager to ring me asap, on the 5th i rang againto speak to the manager and he was out for an hour and i left another message to ring back and then 5hours after that i rang and was told he was on the phone and he was ringing me back and guess what..ive had no call!!
What should i do, apart from send my hubby down there?
Im due to go away on the 11th with kids and a great dane camping, how am i gna get all them and luggage in my hubbys car? lol.
I could understand if my car was a lamborghini and i had to wait for the part to be shipped in.

Go down there with hubby if nessasary ask what is happening and kick up a stink if you dont get a satisfactury answer, your to easily fobbed off on the phone. Go higher than the manager MD possibly.

what are you asking?
The turbo knackered, thats pretty obvious. Are you asking if they can put a recon or new turbo in?Either is fine, however the price should reflect which you have.
Yes the car is still road worthy, and your only gonna **** the turbo by driving it, but thats being replaced anyway.Get the mangers name, ring him every 15 mins until he talks to you, hes giving you the swerve.

I think you've missed somthing here it shouldn't be costing her anything it should still be under warrenty surley

Yes it's still under warranty, i was just asking questions in general as im not sure ie using used parts is right.
I just think i might be getting the run around and i dont know if im being a pest demanding a coutesy car, and i would like some experienced advice from people who know more than i do.
As i said im going to drive 200 miles on the 11th from my home, ive paid a deposit for this hol which i wont get refunded and i can see me hiring a car to go away with. But is this fair as the car was booked in and should have had parts waiting for it and it should have been fixed by last week.
2 months ago that manager phoned me twice in 4 weeks to rearrange appointments for servicing and something else, saying that the mechanic "there is only one who is experienced to do work on my car who works there" had hurt his hand and gone to hospital, and the next time he was off ill all week!!
And yes i can see my hubby going to have words!! :/

read the crock of **** thread

Put in a written complaint about the service that you have had. Itemise what action you wish to have taken, and by when.

If it is under warranty and you drive it, make sure yu have it in writing that any further damage will be covered by them and that yu have AA (or similar) cover.
then use the car until it is fixed.

worsty case scenario - yu drive it with a dodgy turbo - turbo goes bang, turbo is injested by injun, injun goes bang - not good.
If they tell yu to do it and they take responsibility - yu aint got much to loose................

apart from maybe an 8 month wait for a noo injun :(.

If this dealer only has one mechanic capable or qualified to work on your RR ide take it else where

I might be tempted to email LR Customer Service explaining the difficulties you're having and advise them of their franchised dealer's advice to drive the vehicle. Then ask them to confirm that if matters deteriorate/ more damage is done, the warranty will cover all damage to turbo and engine etc.

And no, I don't think you should accept a reconditioned part for work done under warranty.

Tazz

stop ****ing about phoning the service manager.... email or write to the md or sales director point out how long theve had the car, youve been refused a courtesy car, you expect yours to be fixed with a free equivilent till its done or they accept the car isnt of merchentable quality and you expect a new replacement... dont do anything by phone... unless you send an immediate email confirming what was said.
if your in any doubt or they get obstinate get hold of your local trading standards and take their advise

So many things could be causing the whistling sound. Judging by the run-a-round you have been given, I'd say they are milking you for what they can get. Then if you take it out suddenly the whole engine would be needed replacing and as you knowingly drove it with a faulty turbo it wouldn't be covered by warranty.

Don't risk it, contact the MD of the dealership involved, contact LR to advise them and contact the office of fair trading too.

How can they fit recon parts on a brand new very expensive, brand new range rover??????
I wouldnt be very happy, sounds like you getting the marathon of all run arounds. Surly you are entitled to a courtesy car. Is the repairing dealer the one you bought it off?
Good luck and start asking lots of questions when the showroom is busy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
