Hi guys iv got a question for you about my landy.
Its a Series 109" Ex MoD GS and i give £210 for it but the chassis is rotten.
Originally i was going to strip it and weld/replace the rotten bits and then happy days!
But after doing some calculations (believe me that in it self was difficulty;)) i worked out that the cost of doing this is in between 800-900 quid, where as i might be able to get a decent second hand chassis for 2-300 quid.
The welding and the stripping isnt a problem as my main driver is a S3 88" that i got and started to rebuild when i was 13, but i am not sure which is the best path as a second hand might be alright at first but may be just as rotten.
A Galvanised Chassis is out the question as firstly the price and secondly the bulkhead isnt that great and id rather used a normal chassis and then if the bulkhead goes at a later date it wont be too much of a disappointment because i didnt spend thousands just on the chassis.
So which would you do?

Thanks

get a good second hand chassis

or save up for a galvo!

Well yeah thats in an ideal world would be best but the thing that keeps nagging in the back of my mind is "a second hand chassis might be rotten and at least with this one you know whats what" better the devil you know eh?
But then again................

I could go all night!!

i may not be understanding the question right

if you go and view a chassis and it's ok you should go with it (if it's way better than the one you have)

or bite the bullet and get a shed load of sheet steel to repair yours

Trouble is i have never seen any within driving distance from where i live so it will be either brought unseen or brought with a picture.
I'm sort of making this more of an issue that it should be really, the bottom line is this:
I cant get any pics at the moment as its on the farm and im not there again until 7th Jan (Agricultural Engineer/Mechanic) but its rotten, the back end doesn't exist the cross member doesn't exist the steering cross member, gearbox crossbowmen and the other all all rotten, the front legs are rotten.
Its repairable but at a price so should i repair it and that way i know it wil be solid or risk buying one and even if i can go look at it i wouldnt start trying to find holes with a screwdriver/hammer/thumb becasue its someone elses property.
So do i risk it!

don't buy one without looking at it first

maybe someone on here can check out any suitable ones out for you on your behalf, if you ask nicely :)

If you do go to look at a chassis then it will be because it sounds like a viable option which will be down to the sellers description. I wouldn't even consider buying anything should the seller raise an objection to hammer and large screwdriver inspection, it's a must.

Somewhere I have a full set of detailed chassis drawings for all the Series.

No idea where they are, but I do know that I still have them!

Click this one for an original blueprint (makes it huge)

This is the workshop manual one (not haynes crap)
