Adjusting valve clearances on a 200tdi - benefits

One of the jobs I'm going to do over the Christmas holidays is mess about with and correct the valve clearances on the old 90, if they're needing done that is. I'm just wondering what the benefits and advantages are to this? For such a simple job its worth doing I reckon
 
Cheaper than a bit of beer can???

I usually turn the engine over with a socket on the alternator bolt so that the engine turns over slowly - in a clockwise direction - if you miss a valve don't turn it back to do the clearance as it will be set wrong ;)
 
I don't drink beer so yup :).

I've no idea if mines have ever been done and like I said for such a simple job its worth having a look at and seeing what difference it,makes
 
If they haven't been done for a while - you will notice the difference mate - the video posted above is a good guide on how to do em - just remember to hold the adjuster with the screwdriver when you do up the lock nut otherwise it could alter the clearance ;)
