additive question series 3

Hi all, I have just bought a 1975 Series 3 to replace by Defender that I have had from new since 2003. I would welcome advice about the best additive to use and how often/volume you would recommend?

Sorry if not clear earlier, the vehicle needs an additive to use unleaded petrol and I would like advice on the best one to use, if there is a best one of course. thanks

I'd probably just run it as is. And look at solving it should it become an issue down the line. What sort of annual mileage do you plan on doing?

Adjust valve clearances, recheck every 6 mths or so, if clearances start to close up then you know it is time for valve seats.

additives?

Gin add tonic
Vodka add orange juice
Whisky add small dash of water
Brandy add a fine cigar

Series land rover - just dont add diesel to a petrol engine

It'll run on paraffin

For your valve seats as posts above, if and when they get bad get the head converted to unleaded, some say dont buy any additive, just keep the money in your pocket and by the time you have any valve seat issues you will have saved far more than the conversion costs,
My unleaded conversion cost on a loose head £200 inc seats/ valves/guides,
The drawback is that it leads to 'as you have the head off why not do the rings' etc,
As you are in london i presume the monthly milage is low so its up to you whether fuel stabiliser is worth putting in, the new petrol goes off, buy a good name product.

Do you know it has not already had hardened valve seats fitted? Many have.

PS Kermit, I did once put paraffin in my 2a [1970's fuel crisis] and all I had. It did run but was pretty rubbish and smelt bad with much missing until good and hot. Just a gallon of petrol added made for much improved running.

i put some diesel in once, not much though!! It smoked like a steam train at full chat!! Didn't let me down though

As everyone else has said, if you just run unleaded you may get some valve seat recession but with regular servicing you can deal with it by valve clearance adjustment. When it gets too severe, then you get the head refurbished and hardened seats fitted.
