I'm trying to figure out what size panel I need to accomodate my extra light/winch switches and stuff, and while I know the standard Landy guages are probably fine, I wondered if anyone who had travelled much could suggest one or two extra guages that would be usefull ??

Do I need oil pressure and temp ? Any point in a turbo gauge ??

Have a look at the mudstuff site, they do a nice replacement centre console. I have space for 8 switches, 2 12v sockets a national luna twin battery monitor, stereo and 3 gauges.

I would consider oil temp/pressure 1st. oil temp will give you a better idea of when the engine is warm enough to work hard. Depending on your destination ambient temperatures may also cause engine oil to heat up to a point where it starts to degrade. You may not notice much of a rise in coolant temp, but the oil temp could go above where you want it to. A good indicator allowing you to stop and allow the engine to cool. Oil pressure is good to pick out any engine troubles prior to it actually breaking.

Not much point in turbo boost unless you have fiddled/tweaked/tuned it.

EGT gauge is a good one. Monitors the temp of the exhaust gases on exit.

Rev counter some folk swear by, but i wont be fitting one.

you should also replace the water coolant gauge with one that gives actual temps. Original is fine here in the UK but its nice to know whats going on when your in warmer climes.

From your picture looks like you got a 200tdi. A coolant loss sensor is more for a 300tdi as the water pump sits higher. Should be fitted when you change over the gauge.

Think thats about it. Gearbox oil temp if you do alot of towing is worth considering also.
