Disco 1 300 Tdi High EGT and low power

The thing is that I'm not rolling coal, which makes me believe that there's not too much fuel, but I can't explain why EGT climb so fast. Timing maybe?

I fitted a defender transfer box recently, and there's an improvement... But not a permanent solution. Thanks for your answer!


Got a snorkel fitted? if so try is with it disconnected, mine loses a knatts cock of power with snokel connected, due to restricted air flow, as flex pipe from wing to air box is only 60mm id, plus the length.

That's a good idea, but right now mine is purely cosmetic, I'm using the standard intake untill this issue is solved....
 
Hi. Quick update.
Replaced the lift pump, old one was soft and made no suction. No difference...

Tried turning the full load screw, first 1/2 turn, then another 1/2 turn. EGT would rise a lot faster, but no more power a no rolling coal either, which is odd. The screw was not touched as I had to remove the plastic ring. Weird thing is that idle was around 150rpm higher with each turn getting up to 1100rpm in the end (and I wasn't playing with the idle screw....)
Then, put the starwheel a bit up, 3/4 turn loose. No difference.

Upped the boost to 1,3 bar. No difference...
Boost is about 0.3 bar higher in first and second gears then it is in fifth, so I got 1-1.1 bar at the top end. Is this normal?

Chronoed 0-100kmh in about 27 seconds with a slight incline and more than 600degree EGT at the end.

Guys, I'm really lost here, the only thing that has made any difference so far has been detaching the boost feed to the pump...
I feel that something is masking everything here. I have to try to remove the exhaust, maybe I have something obstructing the gas exhaust....
 
I wonder if the fuel is getting to the engine properly.

Are you sure the turbo pressure pipe to the pump is not crushed or mostly blocked?

Have you checked your timing? pump timing? you say you used a drill bit, I would use a a dial indicator to make sure it is correct.

I think you need to go back to basics, or do you have access to a second fuel pump to try and see if that makes a difference?

I think timing is on point, I took the car some time ago to a classic land Rover workshop just for that matter. After that is when I used the drill bit instead of the 9mm pin from the timing kit, so I would say that is not the problem. I had some timing issues in the past and the car made a greyish cloud of itchy gas everytime it went above 1500rpm.

About the boost pipe, I'm going to check that next, but I believe it's fine.

I just returned from testing a crazy thing. I completely removed the boost pin and just plugged the hole with a bolt. ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE. Seriously, this is some paranormal activity right here...

I don't have access to a different injection pump, I wish I had.

OK, crazy idea time,

have you looked at the pressure release valve in the pump, it is next to the inlet pipe , front of the pump, may be worth pulling it out and seeing if it is blocked / not moving.

Also pull the stop solenioid and see if the rubber is still intact.

I bring some updates on the issue, hoping that you folks can shed some light.
I went full $$ and replaced the FIP. The pump comes from a 300tdi defender, and I've confirmed that it hasn't been fiddled with (stock pin, everything looks untouched).
So, as you can guess...the car runs the same. Slow, sluggish, and with very high EGT.
I've tested flooring it in second gear from around 2000rpm, EGT's will get to 600ºC before I reach 50km/h.
It revs very slowly, with little to no smoke under load. When revving it on neutral, there is more black smoke (not too much I think) and some white smoke on certain rpm bands and throttle position, which I think it's very odd.
I've also checked the rear sedimenter and it looks perfectly clean.

Attached you can check a video of the car revving and smoking at neutral. I repeat that under load there is almost no black smoke, only when coming from a stop. The car was fairly cold (I know, I know) I repeated the same when completely warmed up and looked like there was no white smoke. Smell was clearly diesel, there is no burnt oil.
