Is there an easy way to achieve TDC for the removal of the pump? the haynes says about flywheel locking tools and timing pump tools. I was just wondering if it was ok to just do the timing pump one as i dont have a blank plug for the flywheel. It also says i need a 3/8" bit of metal, whats the closest to this in metric? will use a metric drill bit to secure this and hope (if my timing is ok) that this will achieve TDC.

Got all the pump bolts undone (finally) so this is the final step.

its a 300tdi too.

Cheers,

G

right, after searching i found something written by trewy, so im going to shove a 5mm drill bit ino the flywheel housing hopeing to locate the right position (i hear there are 2!)

anyone think any different or can offer advice please raise your hands now! im off back to the cold :(

ay, just finished. i got Lisa to turn the belt (alternator pulley) while i looked out for the 5mm long slot through the bellhousing hole thingy. when that appeared i got it centred. then carried on removing the pump.

The old pump has loads more play on the shaft than the new one.

bolted the new one in and done up everything i undone to get ot the bolts. pain in the arse it were, but not as bad as a starter motor.

now all i need to do is test drive. fingers crossed, hope i done it right and all goes well

ai, im going to take it back to the bloke i got the 1st one from here in Bristol. The chap at brookwells did say that there was a small batch of dud webco units that was circulated, maybe it was part of this stock. Anyway, after forking out another £120 i hope to get my £££ back on the initial one.

going to fire it up now :O
