ACE - Question please

OK guys - I made it down to London and took 5 litres of fluid with me. HOWEVER I didnt need any!!!!! Big pool of ACE fluid on the drive before I left, topped up the reservoir, then drove down to London from Nottingham stopping at every serviuce station on the way and... it didnt lose a drop - all that fluid not needed! HOWEVER once I'd stopped there was a puddle of ACE fluid under the car again (about half the reservoir)

I'm now confused. It looked like the pump was leaking when I had a look from underneath, but why would a leak stop when the car is moving but start again for a short whiile after it stopped???

Any ideas welcomed!

The PRESSURE when the engine is running may be forcing parts to self-seal.

FIRST JOB .... check all the pipe connections for tightness!
Second Job ... make sure the leak isn't coming from a metalpipe to rubber flex-pipe joint.

Get the engine good and warm, stop the engine, Clean the whole area using GUNK, rinse it off using very hot water, if possible use an air line to dry it off, then start the engine to see if you can spot the leak source.

You might get lucky.

That would make sense. Many thanks!

Could anyone possibly point me towards a description of the ACE system and how its laid out on the Diso2? I'm fairly new to the car and not yet sure what to look for and understanding how it works and is laid out would assist. The Haynes manual is not much use on ACE...

Cheers
Ian

basically, there's a hydraulic pump driven off the engine, a valve block on the chassis under the driver, a hydraulic ram on both front and rear roll bars with pipes going back to the valve block, a computer that controls the valves based on information it recieves about speed, transfer box status and rolling angle, the roll sensor is above the front interior light.

when you go around a corner the ACE responds by activating the RAM on the roll bar to keep the body upright. the ACE dont work in Low Box.

OK - I'm feeling very foolish.... The reservoir that I keep topping up is the one towards the front of the car - the cap had ACE symbols on it. The half reservoir furthest away from the front was marked power steering. It looks like its a cracked power steering pump causing the leak and I didnt know that the caps on the reservoirs had been swopped at some point... I've been topping up power steering not ACE Doooh! Didnt realise till I'd stripped it down..... Thanks for all the good assistance anyway
