Ace fluid

Can any explain in basic English what ACE, PAS and ATF fluids are. Also my Ace fluid is low can I use atf to top it up? I have a 2003 disco td5

On the Disco 2, LR recommends that you use "Cold Climate Fluid" LR Part Number: STC50519 in both the Power Assisted Steering (PAS) and Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE). Apparently, according to LR using the wrong fluid might cause the seals to rot and fail. Cold Climate Fluid is not cheap, but it can be obtained on the infamous auction website much cheaper than buying it from the main stealers, search on the part number.

Personally I would not recommend using Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) in either PAS or ACE. There will probably be others who might say that it's OK.
