Acceptable dealership behaviour?

Thanks for the dissenting opinion. I can see the dealership's perspective but, all things considered, I still think this was unacceptable behaviour. It also wasn't simply a communication issue - I don't think we would have agreed to our brand new car being used for someone else's personal use (and being parked overnight at their house), even if this was part of a "testing" regimen.

Don't know if it's still the same, but LR used to give the supplying dealership a bonus if the buyer took the car back there for it's first service, indicating the customer was happy with them. Back in the late nineties it was about £500 to £1500, depending on model.

I would threaten them with the Police.
Sec 178 Road Traffic Act.
Taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner. yes you agreed to the test driving it but not for personal use. especially if the tracker showed that it wasnt tested whilst parked all night :)

Intrigued why the CEO of BMW would be interested.......?

Seriously tho......Customer Relations at JLR, and the Dealer Principal and Franchise Director of Marshalls seems a far more productive route to follow. I can see good reason (with a proper explanation to the customer) for several short trips, even overnight exceptionally, if intermittent fault is hard to trace - no idea if that is relevant here? And the car should have come back clean no matter what..... ;-) Hope they get to the bottom of it. A

If you purchased it brand new, and the fault showed in under 14 days, i think (im not a lawyer!) that you have some sort of rights as to just returning it for a full refund.

I can tell you that the dealership certainly wouldnt have liked that...

As a side note -

I got sent a piece of electronics a couple of weeks ago with an intermittent fault.
The unit wont log 'on' time, but it wouldn't matter if it did. The owner is well aware that its been turned on for the past 2 weeks in the hopes of the intermittent fault appearing.

Key points im trying to make -

You cant detect an intermittent fault without use.
The owner, in my case, knows what's going on, as ive kept them updated.

Given that this is a warranty issue, fuel cost should be borne by the garage - there is no question there, im sure.

Awful! Do not trust the service department. They took my car away for a service and damaged the paintwork during a courtesy clean, the car was then crashed into a motorcycle on its way home. ...

The problem came when talking to the finance manager- even though I have no issue with financing the car was made to feel as though I was a tyre kicker who was wasting their time because I wouldn't agree to the sale then and there. When I said I wanted to think about it I was essentially dismissed by her with a sarcastic and catty comment.

Congratulation guys, you just lost a sale.
Avoid.
