abs traction control

hi all, has anyone hear ever fitted a later type modulator to a earlier type car. i.e from a 2000 model to a 1998. reason being is that i suspect there to be a fault with my one on my 1998 dt. but me being me has just bought one of ebay without researching it properly! the one that i have just bought is of a 2000 model and i believe that they have 4 wheel traction control. i don't think my 1998 diesel has traction control. my question is, if i was to get the later type abs/ traction control ecu would it work on my dt? i know that i already have the hi line becm fitted to my range rover, if that makes any difference? any help would be welcome, thank you.
