ABS, Traction Control & Hill Descent Warning Lights

any one?????

some one must have had the same problem and sorted it with out a garage!!

Grips will be ok, just be carefull and don't get too heavy handed. I must have been lucky with mine cos they came out with a small twist from a set of pliers.

Hey,

You can actually get a machine from ebay now, which clears all warning lights. Might be useful to those wanting to sell their vehicles.

Infact, wouln't it be more savy just to pull the fuses for those warning lights out ? Be allot easier than jacking up your car, removing wheel, cleaning the barstard etc. Next time you hit mud, that light is just gonna come on again . . .

Did you get resolution on your 3 Amigos issue? I'm suffering from the same problem and suspect a faulty sensor. My lights come on intermitantly and this started after I once had to brake sharply and hit a bank quite hard with my front left wheel. If I switch the ignition off and back on the fault lights will clear and usually stay off for anything up to four days before reappearing.
I too have attempted to remove the suspect sensor but have found that it is locked in solid. The only way I can see to get it out is to destroy it in the process and fit a replacement though I'd like to try cleaning the old one first before I shell out > £150 for a new one especially since there's no guarantee that this will sort the problem.
I have taken the vehicle to a LR specialist who plugged in a testbook but got no fault codes showing for this. It would appear that this fault does not stay registered in the ECU if it is intermitant which is strange as most other intermitant faults do.
Grateful for any light that you or anyone else can shed on this cause it's getting annoying and as I have an MOT test due next week you can guarantee that those little lights will come on in the middle of the test.
For the record I have already replaced the brake light switch.

i'm still trying all sorts with mine, sensors will still not come out...!!!!
as you said you will destroy them first.

i had it looked at at amates garage with no joy.....
i replaced the brake light switch first with no joy..... when this first presented its self.

i have been told by a few owners of older freelanders they pulled the bulbs and had no probs since.....?????

my wifes cars been to devon,leeds,and east coast with no faults except these lights

so i'm toying with the idea......!!!!! but still trying to narrow things down as you do......

i would have thought the sensors would be free now with all the wd...

and no other symptoms other than lights on the dash..!!!

i would be interested in your findings or remidies in these lights...

and any other comments others may have in rectifying this fault.

When the lights are on the ABS, HDC and TC are disabled (I've tested it) so I think I'd rather leave the bulbs in as a reminder (for safetys sake).
I'm not sure whether the MOT test encompases an actual check of the ABS operation. If it does there doesn't seem any point in removing the bulbs anyway.
As I've recently snapped off a wheel stud on the wheel in question and I will be replacing the hub flange and bearing this weekend so will take the oportunity to attempt to remove the sensor again once everything that needs to be removed from the hub is off. As I've found a supplier who is knocking out the sensors at £80 I might just bite the bullet and order one any way.

I had the front left ABS sensor changed at a garage but the problem is still there. Luckily the lights didn't come on during the MOT so it got through OK.
I got the sensor from here:
Land Rover Freelander Front ABS Sensor SSW100080

Hi guys, I know I am covering old ground again but..........

About to sell wife's freelander as I have just bought a Disco 3 so no need for 2 4x4's. She has the amber hill descent warning light and recently the ABS light stay on permenantly. I have peeled back the gearstick gater and can see the connections, they all look good.

1/ Where is the brake light switch and how do I get to it?
2/ Would this switch also affect the ABS as well as the traction light?
3/ Is there a way to re-set the ecu like leaving the battery unplugged for 24hrs like on my old Disco?
4/ How much am I looking at at my Indi dealer to sort these and what should I say to them to 1/ look knowledgable and not get stung 2/ make sure it is done cheaply.

Brake pedal switch..
above the brake pedal arm
under the dash.
best way to see it. lie on your back with your head in the foot well.

looks a bit like an asthma inhalator.
with a small plunger at the bottom end held in until you push the pedal.
picture attached

the whole unit twists to remove and wiring unclips too.
cost about a 10-12 quid from ebay.

on mine it solved the 3 amigos lighting up (T/C ABS HDC)
along with having no brake lights at all.
the switch itself had a internal connector wear out and snap off.
and i was able to do a dodgy repair with a staple till the new switch arrived,
so i keep the old as a spare.

as for resetting the ECU from memory it took about couple of days before the dash lights went away, i think thats something to do with the computer remembering stuff for 20 on.off cycles or might be 50.
but in my case the brake lights started working immediately, which is what i was bothered about.

Many thanks for this Richard, the usual great help from this forum, many many thanks. I have not had a chance to get hold of the car as she is always out in it but will try to see tonight, will give it a good checking over.

The only issue is that I have the hill descent amber light on and the SRS light, not abs...............

Any ideas?

Hi there guys, I have the 2000 3 door XEI model and mine is doing exactly the same thing squeaking rear brakes and all three lights on amber. Thay have done it before but the lights went off when I turned it off and back on again, but this time thay are staying on grrrrr, any suggestions??????

My Disco 2 Did exactly this....Reason being when it was diagnosed on nanocom it flagged up a wheel sensor fault....and due to it being a wheel sensor my light simply wouldnt go out (It wasnt a faulty sensor, it was a squeaky brake that caused it)
Best bet get it on the Testbook and find out what the fault is...

i have just read that pushing the pistons back on the calipers with out undoing the bleed nipples when changing brake pads can push dirt back into the abs pump and stop the solinoyds from working, but a good fluid change can sort the problem hope this helps

when my HDL & tc light comes on the engine cuts out ,fuel pump stops ???????? switch off and re start ok againg for 10 mins
