Well, I thought I would start a new thread from this one I have going...

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/you-have-love-them-253454.html

as I am still having problems after yet another afternoon and morning trying to solve it, so I do come across the solution it may be easier for other people to find if they have a similar fault.

To recap:-

Driving along and ABS light comes on - will not go out and ABS has disabled.

Done the blink test - code 1-2 comes up.

The only list I can find this blink code is here:

blink test codes

So going from that its the "Sensor B (L1) Sensor speed jump"

Also this code cannot be cleared from the memory.

I have re-seated the ABS sensors in the wheels, as I have recently changed the Track Rod Ends, and with a lot of bashing, thought these might have come out a bit.

Have checked the 5amp fuse in the fuse box (under drivers side) and also the 40amp fuse in the bonnet - these are all good.

Put power to the ABS pump and this comes alive, so no problems there (I did have an issue with a dodgy earth to the pump a few years back, but this is still ok, as checked that too - see my thread here...

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/abs-help-clicking-relays-light-157854.html

It seems I am just destined to have this 1-2 code and problems, although as it seems intermittent for a couple of years.

The only other thing that has recently been done is extended braided hoses, although I cannot see why that would affect the ABS?

Any brakes / ABS experts out there that can help please??

Losing the will to live :(

i attached you the whole troubleshooting procedure for D1 ABS, do the test according to this file IF you did it other way maybe cos you should not get fault code starting with 1(all the figures are at the end of the file), or maybe you can find somebody with a compatible tester to double check the blink test...as you describe everything i suspect the ABS ECU is gone... there are many cheap guaranteed for around £25 on ebay...IMO you better rule this out before you go further

It's possible that the support bearing in the stub axle has collapsed. Had the same problem on my old one.
Only way to check is to remove the stub axle, and on the inner end where it bolts to the swivel is a needle roller bearing, this supports the cv joint on abs vehicles.

You can see the bearing here

If it does have a failed bearing, wouldn't it be noticeable when driving or for mot purposes?

Nope. It only supports the inner end of the cv joint, helps keep the correct air gap between the sensor ring and sensor

witth a ''healthy" ECU/system you must get the specific 2-12/13/14/15 code according to the involved side...that's why they introduced an ECU to manage and diagnose the system

Well, I am now all sorted.

Noticed that my brake lights were not working, so pulled out the switch and touched the wires together, and on they came, so dodgy switch.

typically I have the more expensive one, with 4 wires having an auto, so £12.00 later, new switch fitted and brake lights now working, but ABS light still on and ABS not working.....ahhhhhh

So gave up and went to see my local Indi guy to get it hooked up to the computer to see what was wrong.....had 4 errors, 2 relating to the rear ABS sensors, air gaps etc, one to the Brake Pedal switch and one to a sticking ABS pump. Got all of these cleared, and then drove it, and hey presto light went out and ABS now working.

Still bugs me though that even though all the errors are cleared the light doesn't blink when you first turn on the ignition showing no errors, but hey ho, at least the light goes out and the ABS works.

So now I am back in favour with the old girl thought I would treat her to, dare I say it, a complete clean and even a hoover out

Can't believe how she looks when clean - very odd as its been so long since she has been that way - but will have fun getting her dirty again......

Here she is in all her glory :D

well done... though I don't understand what blink you expect... it must come on on ignition 2 sec., go out for 0.5 sec, come back then go out just when you exceed 5mph... if it behaves different there's still an ECU misbehaviour.... watch it carefully as that 0.5 second is not much

it must come on on ignition 2 sec., go out for 0.5 sec, come back then go out just when you exceed 5mph...

This is the part I meant, it did used to do this many many moons ago, but not anymore, even when all the codes have been cleared and it seems to work as it should....very strange, but isn't that the trait of the disco

That's where the voodoo comes into play as we still had it connected and there was no faults registered, and even after a drive around and back onto the computer, no faults logged, and still no blink.......

yes, but it always comes up with the code 1-2 that doesn't seem to exist nor can it be cleared - so have given up......

Hi StuRox. Had exactly the same anoying 'abs fault' on the dash until today when it disappeared after changing the pads. Not saying this is your problem but it might be a cheap fix if you were to examine your pads best of luck.

Its not them unfortunately as have recently done a defender 130 brake conversion, so all is good in that regard, but thanks for the suggestion.

I had a problem with my abs the light was on when I got it.

I did the blink test but the check engine light flashed a 1-2 code. Took it to the landy specialist and he said it was a bad earth.
But he never told me where.
