ABS Fault

I have an abs fault coming up on start up on our 4.6.
Is there any simple way for the layman of trying to discover whats occuring, or am I just best to book a plug in at the local specialist?.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

If its a 95-02 LP RR then yes, it needs to go on Testbook or similar.
