So finally got rid of code 2-14 (nsf air gap) by removing the p!ay from swivel hub but abs still cuts in only on left turns and gives no codes.also the engine check light is flashing one quick flash followed by two quick flashes when running the test(paperclip) was told crank sensor but can't find any reference to this does the 300tdi have one or is it called something else?.

OK just got back from local industrial estate (big parking area no one about so nothing to crash into) put the abs fuse back finally got code 2-14 again but no play in swivel or wheel bearing hub.any ideas on this would be welcome as it's totally lethal with abs on.

If it's only air gap fault try to reseat the sensor eventually remove it's o-ring...if no joy even if there's no play in the bearing there might be in the reluctor ring, measure the sensor's resistance, it must be between 950-1100ohms, if it's out of this range you need a new one untill you fix it drive with it unplugged

OK thanks for that already had the volt meter on sensors all within spec.going to change the seal and sensor bush at weekend as on long nightshift pattern at Mo.was thinking maybe wear on the bearing inside the stub axle or worn CV but no noise from this(knocking or clicking).but the thing is that if a air gap can be big enough to trigger the abs and show no code then the fault could be on any four of them.

My bitter experience with this code was that the sensor on the OTHER side had a cracked wire near the sensor causing an intermittent abs light coming on...when I swapped the sensors over left to right the fault did not change sides which really had me fooled. But ultimately replacing the right hand sensor when the fault was reporting on the left side fixed it. I found the fault by having both the sensors out and measuring the resistance whilst bending the wire near the sensor, the right hand sensor went open circuit in certain positions. It must be a oddity in the abs computer to report a fault in the left sensor when the right (or left) goes open circuit? Note I replaced wheel bearings and swivel bearings prior to finding the sensor fault (dammit).
