ABS brakes locking wheels randomly

HI . the ABS system on our TDi comes on and locks front wheels when making sharp turns. Car undriveable. Have repalced all sensors and wiring between wheel hubs and ECU but still has problem. any ideas please?

Does the warning light go out properly every time? Have you tried reading the stored fault codes (if any)?

yes the light goes out every time and no stored fault codes so far as i know.

And it is definately the ABS and not the transmission locking?

I think so. As I turn sharply and accelerate a little at the same time such as coming out of a side road onto a main road the wheel locks immediately and then quickly releases of its own accord. It does not do it every time but enough that you can't be safe pulling out anywhere as the car will virtually come to a standstill. No warning lights on afterwards.

Sounds like that may be a broken CV joint 'catching', a diff-lock locked on, a diff that's broke, or even UJ's 'catching' and locking the prop up .. whereabouts are you, maybe someone can have a look at it?

Your description sounds quite odd ...
