No, I totally agree and having sounded out 'the boss' today it seems she's ok with a belt fastening, she's got her eye on some funky rear facing jobby. So if that's what she wants and it means I get the rangey then that's cool with me.

How have you found your 2001 to be, how long have you had it, any problems and how many MPG are you seeing?

Hopefully going to see the car and collect on Friday if all is well (Still being driven around by the owner of the dealership which must be a good sign) Ill post up some pics as soon as I have it in my grubby mitts.

Got my 2000 4.6 Vogue a few months ago. Under £7k and 75000 miles, looks like new. First week discovered crack engine block :confused2:, but fortunate to get replaced with recon at no cost to me. Still love it despite this drama

Its a great car, Iv had it best parts of 2 months now and very happy with it.
Mine has 89k on it, I bought it privately for just under 6k. Full history, last owner had just spent 5k in the last 6 months having both head gaskets, new air bags, air bag ecu, compressor and a brand new seq lpg gas system. Unfortunately he had a heart attack and had to sell. Its a 4 litre HSE in epsom green with the light beige oxford leather. With gas I get equiv to 32mpg, petrol I pull 16-18mpg.
Dont worry about it going wrong, all cars go wrong and when they do they cost money. When I was having my exhaust fitted I got talking to a guy who had a Audi S6, he needed a pair of cats, audi had quoted him £900 each +VAT. Thats alot to spend on a £6k car.
Any problems you have with your potential rover the guys on here will have had already and its more than likely you will be able to rectify it or at least go about it the cheapest way.
The key is make sure you get a good one in the first place.
As for the car seat, if your littleun is 9 months you must be on the cusp of changing seats anyways. I'd go for a Maxi-cosi, they are about the safest on the market for seat belt fixing since they have a selt belt pre tension. Some of the model also recline. Dont go for the rear or forward facing since they dont do either very securely. I do a bit of part time for Halfords amongst other things so I got a little inside knowlege about the seats.

I think the heart attack was pie related judging by the size of the seller, although the bills may not have helped.

That was obviously the reason he needed a Rangey then

Spoke to dealer today, car not going to be ready until next week now. Tells me it has a small scratch on wheel arch which he's getting sorted, which is fair enough, but also there is an intermittent fault with the SatNav and he has ordered a new GPS unit which he's going to fit before I get the car. However, that said, it's still his father in laws daily driver, and seems a little reluctant to hand it over having bagged it today and tomorrow.

What would you do?

If they don't want rid then that's good news, I'd put down a small deposit and put a delivery date on the invoice to suit both. You can say you are going away and need to have it a few days beforehand to get used to it.

Paint will take three days max, gps dunno but give him a week total. You are probably just chomping at the bit, perfectly natural.

About the stereo - yes you can have a port fitted to the set, I got a quote last week for repairs and ipod /mps line in fitted and it was 130 quid all in, sounds like a lot but compared to replacing the whole lot with a quality system it's not.

Well it sounds like they want it to go fully working etc. Bear in mind car dealers use allsorts of patter to get a sale for a good price for them.
Dont know if you heard on the news yesterday but they were talking about used car sales and dealer responsabilities for faults. Apparently now it has been clarified a little more, for the first 6 months after purchase it is up to the dealer to prove the fault wasnt there before they sold it, for the next 6 its up to the seller to prove the dealer is at fault. Either way whatever they tell you or what their paperwork says, if it goes wrong its their problem.
Thats why you are paying the extra, in my opinion I pay a couple of grand less for taking a chance.

Oh, parrot hands free kits allow ipod music streaming into head units and also offer control of the ipod off the parrot display screen, there about £150. Im not sure of the compatibility with the harmon unit but they work in most with a suitable wiring adapter.

Cheers v8rly, thats really interesting, Ill have to have a bit of a look into that. That reads to me as a 6 month warranty without asking!

Check out the suspension bags carefully: the rubber is subject to `drying-out` over time, much as tyres show cracking in their sidewalls. Not a deal-breaker, but something to be aware of. Good luck.

Much umming and aahing last week, and a daliance with a similarly priced loaded 04 ML350, plus the dealer not ringing me to tell me he'd sorted out those issues and it was ready to look at, meant I didn't pick it up as planned.

Every time I've seen one since I started looking, I get a little pang of desire. So, this could be the week.

Shall I go for it or will I regret it? What say you? And at £9750, is it too much for a 10 year old 48k miler?

Sounds too high for me.

I know the milage is higher but I paid £9,800 for my 02 l322 with 100k on the clock. It doesnt have satnav (the one downside at the moment) but everything else is pretty much mint.

Have seen a few others on Autotrader which are similar. Just cause they're asking 12k doesnt mean you have to pay it

I paid £4850 fo a November 2000 DHSE with 87K on the clock, so yours sonds expensive to me

It sounds to me like your being messed around by the dealer. There will be others available and an ml will never feel the same to drive.

I must admit, having 'We Buy Any Car'd it, and them offering £4500, I did have a pang of 'ouch'.

Hmmm, time for a little more umming and ahhing methinks or some serious dealer bashing. Particularly if L322's, albeit with high miles, are beginning to come in around the £10k mark.

Yes they go wrong and yes they can be a bugger from time to time. But the feeling when all is going well you cant beat..

Right then, so having just written off an RX-8 and with the relentless snow a Rangey is back on the agenda once the insurance co. pay out. Seen this one, seems bang on the money but is 70k a risk - I know a lot of you are running much higher milers than that.
