A week back I got in the D90 and started it up. A terrific rattle came from the transmission/transfer case that I felt through the gear lever. I released the parking break and it went away. Why I thought to do that, I have no idea.

A few days ago I was getting off to a overland trip, and the rattle appeared again, this time when I would take the gear lever from neutral and push it to the left to engage 1st gear and if I went into 2nd gear. Once it is in gear, the rattle is gone. There is no issues going into any other gear.

This is a reman r380 and lt230 from ashcroft.

I plan to put up a video tomorrow to see if anyone has heard or seen anything like it before.

Thanks for any input.

Sounds like something is loose to me
My parents old car made a horrid noise, but what they put on the radio is their choice!

I'd be activating the rattle with the aid of a helper to see if you can narrow it down a bit

Well that gives me pause! Everything seams seems to shift fine in all gears. Finding reverse is a bit finicky but always there and I just assumed that was from being "new". I sent the videos to Ashcroft, I will report back for future reference.
