I never thought that there this could happen, but if you install a new head unit into a defender and turn it up really loud then you can't hear the engine at all.

I discovered more when I realised that by turning the stereo up really loud makes you drive faster (well it does when you like U2 and turn it up)

Also, whether it's the vibration of the engine or the bass in the music you will never know, but it doesn't matter

I have to say, I love the engine sound that my defender makes, but I love listening to other music as well. All I need now are a new set of speakers - mine are old and can't take it. Now how do I get a set of them in the car as well without getting into trouble with my wife.

(oh yes - and the bloke who asked me if I stopped the fuel cap from leaking , I have stopped it leaking as much. I used the rubber seal as a template to cut a new one and placed both into the fuel cap. Most of the fuel now stays in the tank!!!)

was yer last car a saxo ?

no, never owned a saxo - why do you ask? or an escort. Did have a mk2 golf GTi - but not sure £3500 repair bills for the year and a blown up engine at the end of it all is something I want to remember.

The engine went for some strange reason after I drove it through a flood and drowned it in the middle. I had to get out and push car out of deep water with help of local lads. If only I had a defender then...

It's amazing how life changes - one minute you think you're michael schumacher zooming around at 50 in a 30 limit, then you change and think you are the dogs zooming around at 20 in a 30 limit!!!

sorry, just got a call from the other room to go to tesco in my trusty landy - wish me the best as I wake the neighbours kids (and my own) as i turn my stereo on!!!

Well Dringo,
Give the nice guys at NoiseKiller a call, (Car Soundproofing - Vehicle, Industrial and Marine Sound Proofing - Noisekiller UK)they do an excellent silencing kit for a Defender (and many other vehicles as well.) I can even hear the wind noise over the TD5 & my dodgy gearbox now and I haven't even fitted the engine silencing blanket on yet. Truely excellent value at about £240, it makes an astonishing difference. I'm thinking of commisioning a design to quieten the wife, :blabla: so I can't hear her complaining about more bits / work going on the motor. :lalala:

I fitted new Alpine speakers in the front today and have previously fitted Fusion speakers in the rear (it's a CSW) and a small subwoofer behind the front passenger seat. I don't even have to turn it up too loud to here my tunes anymore. :)

I never had a Saxo either, but I do like my music! You need to try "The Enemy, Music for the people", you'll definitely need new speakers then.

Cheers,

ferk me have they all gone soft wanting to hear music in a defender next thing they will be asking if you can put a heating element on the sunroof so the water that leaks through is warm:D

:D:p:p:p

Actualy I'm planning on a Webasto for the winter, if I had a sunroof the water dripping down the back of my neck would probably be a welcome addition to the freezing temperatures inside...

Not that I'm complaining mind. ;)

Music in a fender?? I have all the music I need - A V8 purring under the bonnet. :p

jzcktv, whats the story with EDS? I'm ex EDS, Andover.

My noisy defender means I can't hear my wife or the kids when i'm driving - and because it is making me very slowly totally deaf then one day I won't have the problem at all!!!!!!! - but then I'll miss out on listening to any music.

soundproof kit sounds good though - I'll take a look.
