Ok not much but you know how it is, i have been living with this for at least 4 years!!

98 Landys P38 DSE Auto

Kinda like a winging noise, im guessing its a bearing in the gearbox, what is it anyone? is this (if it is that) an easy fix, it gets louder as you accelerate what do you think?

hi,before you go spending a lot of money on it,try one of those gear box additives that stops noises etc, molyslip or one like it.i used one on another car awhile back and it sorted the noise out.:D

Mine went at 57000, wanted a quick fix so decided to get a recon. box fitted by Ashcroft.
That said, the bearing will not break the bank and will give you a chance to examine the rest of the box components...if you have the time and inclination.

Ok im not good at looking stuff up (i did look at rave) when i replace it, do i need seals? is there anything im likely to destroy getting it out that i have to replace? any gaskets? i know i have the zf auto gearbox box (P38 97 DSE Auto) id this bearing behind the brakes? if so i have done one on my series ll is this the same kind of operation?

Procedure is on Rave Borg Warner section. Box workings is very similar.
Here is a list of bearings and seals:

Front Output shaft
Bearing RTC 6025
Oil Seal kit STC 4380

High/Low Intermediate epicyclic shaft
Bearing STC 3236

Rear output shaft
Bearing RTC 6025
Oil Seal FRC 7043

Can't see any gaskets, the flanges are sealed with RTV silicone as far as I know.

Ruddy hells bells duz anyone do them, i did a google and paddocks craddocks etc, can i find them!!!!!!!

if you have a look at British parts or even mail Paddocks, Rimmers, \craddocks etc. you should get a response. Obviously your main stealer will get them but personally, I would get the LR oil seals and get the bearings from a local bearing stockist, just take the originals as samples...they will be same quality, or better and far cheaper. The bearings are standard items and not especially made for P38's. You could also try Ashcroft Transmissions..they recon the transfer boxes and would definately have them. I don't know if they would sell just the bits though.
