Christmas greetings fellows,

A year ago I bought me a Freelander 1 with the good old (very old) 1.8K cheap - rebuilt the engine cheap & spent a year feeling smug as I the engine purred away & didn't lose a drop of coolant - then, just as I was getting ready to make a smug post about how your K-series is only as good as the mechanic (i.e. me - ok me & a mate who actually knows what he's doing) who works on it and bad stuff starts happening

so, here is a brain teaser to give you some festive relief.

these are the symptoms:
1. Boot cuby swimming in water
2. near side brake light blows rather frequently
3. one press of unlock on fob unlocks driver's door but does not disarm alarm
4. second press of of key fob disarms alarm
5. immobiliser fails to disarm - intermittent

Cheers
Simon

Hey, I think you can still feel smug - none of those are related to any engine work you did (I don't think).

The fishtank is probably the seal around the back door - lots of stuff on here about identifying and fixing. Brake light is presumably something to do with the wiring to that particular light fitting and needs a clean/check up. Your security stuff, dunno - hopefully somebody can spot something from your descriptions.

I read somewhere Tinternet:confused:o_O that a welding seal around the bootcubby tends to fail allowing road spray to seep in. Could be worth checking also. Alarm could be a failing lock. Have you tried with the car keys to see if the symptoms are the same. Brakelight as mentioned could be poor contact or a failing relay. If you have a multimeter you could check to see if this failing.

First, whoever is responsible for how the GUI on this forum works - you are doing beyond a top job - it is excellent+++

TBH feeling smug is not something I really have a problem with ;)

More than 1 DMM knocking around - just trying to gather intelligence before getting physical with it ;)

There ia a F.A.Q section that covers all this stuff.
this is my kind of post - thanks for reminding me ;)

re fob, try a new battery in it. Have a Merry Christmas!
that's my thinking and a battery is cheap ;)

I will plug in the computer, take a look at the codes & report back

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
